I've taken Calculus I, II, III, and IV at UT Arlington and I'm currently on Differential Equations. I'm gonna put it in my PS.

That all looks really great. It’s important to remember though that grades get you to the interview, but the interview (which is academic, not like interviews for US schools) and the entrance exam (if the college you apply to has one) are what get you the place.

Have you considered what college you want to apply for?

I was thinking Trinity

All of your numbers are good. If you do well in your interview(s? I guess two, subject and general) and score highly on your entrance test, as I think Trinity has one for PhyNatSci, I think you have good chances of pooling if not entry to your college of choice.

I’m not knowlegeable on how autopooling works for internationals or if it works at all, but if it does, I think your grades might get you there.

Just to mention, Trinity College is one of the hardest colleges to enter. Someone I kind of know had about the same scores as you but was rejected from Trinity and offered by another college. I think the person at one of the HYPSM now.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but how exactly do they review your academic profile? Do they look gr. 9-12 or…what?

Btw Token777, you have amazing stats…I’m sure you’ll get in, though maybe not Trinity (I think they only accept 28-32 Nat-Sci program)I you wish the very best!

Ya, I applied to Trinity for mathematics. Was pooled, and got offer from Magdalene. I guess, what I’m saying is, if you’re qualified, you’ll get in Cambridge, but not necessarily your top college.

Thanks for the advice. Is there anything particularly hard about Trinity that makes it possible for me to get into Cambridge, but not Trinity? Or is there just some area that I’m lacking in?

Trinity just has a lot of applicants, so in the end, even if you are good, you are just simply tied with other top applicants. I suppose then, they just pick the people they want more (probably based on demographics), the rest are pooled.

As far as I know, demographics are never used as a deciding factor in admissions. The Cambridge admissions process is a lot less ‘holistic’ than at top US colleges: they basically just care about whether you’re committed to your chosen subject, and whether you’re going to do well under the teaching system at Cambridge. Your ethnicity, extracurricular involvement, whether your parents have donated a building, etc, generally don’t count for much.

Pooled applicants are the ones who appeared a little weaker than the people they were competing against at their chosen college (but who still deserve a place at Cambridge). If one of the other colleges hasn’t had enough good applicants that year then they can fish someone out of the pool. Some students who are pooled do go on to do better at Cambridge than the people who were accepted over them, though. The admissions people do get things wrong…

As for Trinity, it’s not the hardest college to get into statistically, or the top-ranked college academically (although the numbers vary from year to year). However, it’s certainly above average and attracts a large number of international applicants because it’s one of the most famous colleges.

I’m still disappointed over the fact I didn’t get into Trinity. I hop Magdalene will be great for math(s)…

Aww, don’t worry. Everyone loves where they end up eventually…you’ll end up cheering against Trinity at sporting events soon enough!

Also, the education you get doesn’t vary much, whatever college you’re at. Magdalene is a pretty little college by the river, much more cozy than Trinity. :-)
