Cambridge university or American counter part?

Hi All

I'm a british student and I have been admitted into Cambridge university. But at the same time, I have also received offers from columbia, yale, MIT,caltech, Chicago and princeton.

I'm wondering what is the counterpart of cambridge university in America and which college should I really go to?

Thanks!

What do you mean by offers? I assume you mean you have applied and are waiting for results. Some of these schools have not admitted any students yet (Princeton) or do not offer early admission to internationals (MIT). If you applied early to Yale you could not have applied early anywhere else.

Obviously the biggest difference is going to be cost unless you also apply for financial aid which is often limited for internationals.

The educational systems are so vastly different it is very hard to compare US and UK universities. There is no counterpart to Cambridge, although all the schools you listed have excellent reputations, both in the US and internationally. Some are more focused on the sciences (MIT, Caltech) while the others are more general liberal arts universities. Some have extensive core requirements (Chicago, Columbia) while the others have more flexible distribution requirements.

At Cambridge you will read one subject while in the US you will generally spend the first two years in a general curriculum before advancing to your major. It is also a lot easier to switch subjects in the US. Also, in the US you may be able to get involved in research as an undergrad which is generally not possible at Cambridge.

I have to assume that you must have researched the colleges before you applied to them. Find the one that best suits your interests as opposed to trying to match what you may find at Cambridge which is quite different.
