Cameron Impact Scholarship 2020

so something went wrong with a recommendation

they are allowing me to submit it and act as if my app was a regular decision one

We have not heard back anything yet and its July 1st. Applied early decision as well…should I wait or contact them for an update? I wonder how they notified the finalists ?

@2FutureBSMDsMom I would email them because your app might have been incomplete or they didnt get something like for mines. Now I have to wait till October at the lastest.

@stayhumble , we did check with them in May regarding the completeness of application upon submission. We will go ahead and ask for the status today as its way past June 30th. We have not heard anyone being a finalist so far…so they probably do this just so they can get bulk of their application early on and reject few if they dont see value in those. It makes sense though as they will have to go through thousands of applications that gets submitted on the last day.

anyone applying for this RD???

I’m a rising junior and I just found out about this scholarship. It’s actually a really big one so I’m surprised I haven’t heard of it yet. But does anyone know how competitive it is? I’ll apply anyways (probably early) but I just want to know what I’m getting myself into.

Does anyone know how much weight is put into community service for this application? Because I haven’t done much outside of the minimum and I want to focus on other scholarships if I don’t have a chance for this one.

I don’t think it is necessarily community service, like that’s great if you do, but they say on the website the main pillars of the application are a) academics, b) extracurricular activities, c) leadership, and d) community service. so if you excel in another area.

@longinghyphen they limit the # of applications to 3,000 (there were around 2500 last year) and give 10-15 scholarships. So, pretty competitive.

Thanks, @Racingfan53. Omg, that’s a 0.6% acceptance rate!!! Well, we all might as well try. How is the application process? Do you just submit your application and then get a response or is there an interview phase? Has anyone here gotten it before?

I just read their website and there is an interview phase. Does anyone know what that’s like? I’m just struggling to grasp how they can narrow down 15 people from 2,500.

Does anyone know if choosing “expensive” colleges as your top three limit your chances of receiving the scholarship? Are they more willing to give the full tuition to students who are applying for state universities than Ivy Leagues?

@saguarosun Most of the previous winners are going to either Stanford, Harvard, or Yale so I don’t think choosing expensive scholarships puts you at a disadvantage. But I don’t think applying to state universities does either.

Has anyone else applied? I only just submitted mine a few days ago and worried that I didn’t spend enough time on it!

@britain I applied! I’m sure your app was great.

Thanks @sagar_indurkhya ! Do we know more specifically when the results will be released now that it’s October?

@sagar_indurkhya do you know anyone who has gotten it in the past? It sounds amazing but no one in my area has applied or is familiar with it

@longinghyphen I’m curious about this too. Where are interviews conducted?

savethebees292 was selected last year. See comment #44 http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/other-major-scholarships-competitions/2077712-bryan-cameron-impact-2019-p3.html
