@avisomani, I am trying to keep positive, but as far as it appears on CC, the only ones who received positive news all received it last week already and it is seeming that anyone still left is just receiving one by one rejections ? My kid still has not received anything, what about you ??
@spokrey @avisomani - Best of luck to you both. I’m still holding out hope for you.
I don’t understand why the notifications are coming out in dribs and drabs. So far I think the only non-lurker on CC that is moving to the next level so far is @legaleagle1.
yep. and the rejection email was now received by my kid. too…,late last night. oh, well .
So I emailed Ms. Lucas to ask what parts of my applications could have been strengthened, and while she said I was very strong as an applicant, it was a competitive year. She said I had less EC’s and leadership than most of the finalists (which is what I thought it would come down to). She said the strongest part of my app was my academic strength and community service as a hospital volunteer, and writing about my family’s experiences in Iraq. Honestly, to anyone who got rejected, I would suggest sending an email, because I’m definitely considering writing about the same things I did in my college essays (since she seemed to like that).
Guys, I didn’t make it either. I’ll probably email her as well. @ninemuses what exactly was the content of your email?
@avisomani
My email:
Hi Ms. Lucas,
Thank you for considering me. I’m curious as to what my shortcomings were relative to the other applicants/what I could have done to improve my application.
Thank you,
[my name]
Her response:
Hi [name],
I would like to reiterate that our Selection Committee thought you were a very strong applicant, however it’s been an extremely competitive year.
The area that you showed the most strength in your application was in your academic strength and community service as a hospital volunteer. We were also very saddened to read about your family’s difficult experiences in Iraq.
If anything, it was noted that your application was a little lighter on examples of extracurriculars and personal leadership than some of our finalists.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Best,
Amie Lucas
And then I responded with thank you.
It is really nice that she’s giving personal feedback when there were presumably several thousand applicants! I’ll probably be emailing as well.
I had my interview the other day and got some stats if anyone was still curious. They received 3000 applications (1200 of which were incomplete in some way), reviewed 1800, and chose 70 finalists. Of the 70 finalists, 12 will be given the scholarship. So there definitely were more applicants than what everyone expected!
Good luck, @WhoopsieDaisy!
Thank you so much! @LoveTheBard
Did anyone get selected as a recipient of the scholarship?
@magsv11 I know someone who did. I think in the end they chose 12 scholars?
Just wondering if they had started notifying people about who had been selected. Congrats to anyone who was selected for the scholarship!
That number sounds about right. I think they were aiming to pick between 10-15.
I’m excited to read the scholar’s bios on their website. In the meantime, I’m applying for like 10 more scholarships.
I got a call last Thursday that I am a Cameron Impact Scholar! I don’t know if they contacted everyone but I’m assuming that since someone else mentioned that another person was notified already, they have already told all of the recipients. That’s just a guess, however, so definitely don’t take my word for it. According to the website they should publicly release the names tomorrow.
Congrats @Jammose !
Ditto!
Thanks! It’s been surreal the last couple days. I applied for the early deadline at the end of May and heard that I was a finalist at the end of June/beginning of July and I got interviewed in late August… that was the longest wait of my life. Worth every second though! I was caught off guard by the notification a week before the December 15th date on their website so I missed the first call and had to wait anxiously for three hours to have my call returned (longest 3 hours ever, it felt like 3 weeks).
Also it can’t be stressed enough to not get discouraged and keep on applying to other scholarships!!! I submitted this application at the last second after AP exams last year on a whim that I could possibly get it, and it paid off. Your chances are higher than you may think they are; after all, someone has to win these scholarships or they wouldn’t exist. Also the more you submit the better you are at answering the prompts, so apply away!
