Question for the students (current or past) … what is the general vibe on campus? How do you spend time - Friday nights, weekends when you are not studying ? Is it easy to get out of campus? Is it easy to get to DC?
A college town environment was really not in our radar, but we are now leaning heavily towards UMd after not having got our first choice which was more of an urban environment school.
Thanks for your responses!
It’s SUPER easy to get to DC. There’s a bus that goes from UMD to the metro station (that leads to DC) that runs about every 15 mins. in total, it takes me maybe 30 mins max to get into DC (20-25 mins on average). The campus area itself is pretty boring (other than the bars, Milkboy Arthouse, boba/bubble tea places), but the proximity to DC makes up for that. Everything is super accessible (the movie theater is a 5 minute Uber/Lyft).
When I’m not studying, I go to the movies, attend events on campus over the weekend (there’s a LOT), go on a DC adventure with friends, etc. Some of my friends go to parties, but I’m not about that life (and there are still things to do!)
The campus gives off pretty chill vibes. I really like it. It’s peaceful, nice, and serene, while still being lively (if that makes sense.) It’s also SO beautiful!!
Thanks @whenyoubelieve Good to hear this!
@sunparent No problem! If you’d like me to elaborate on anything, let me know!
Actually, that’s the best thing about Maryland - there is no one specific vibe. You really can’t box it in with a single word description. It’s very diverse across the board - cultures, interests, talents, intelligence, personalities, etc.
Also, DC is not the only city to explore… there is a sailing club and they go to Annapolis to sail on weekends. Baltimore is another city to check out - awesome aquarium!
