i'm planning to visit the campus soon. does it help my chances of getting in, since i'm showing interest in Rice? is admissions interest-based? on the rice supplement, it asks whether i visited the campus, did a tour, interview, etc.

They have said in the past it doesn’t matter, but i think showing interest is one of the most important things you can do, especially if you’re not from the area. Visiting a group of schools in the NE is not hard, once you’re there, but to be from anywhere else and make that visit shows keen interest. We’re from NY and we flew down there especially to visit Rice. I think that really helped my son get accepted AND it helped my son realize how much he really liked Rice more than all the other schools we visited. It was a Win-Win situation.

I would say a visit is a great idea if you can make it down here, but its not critical. I never visited Rice until I was accepted. The downside of that, though, is that you dont really get a strong sense of the school youre applying to. There are many things about Rice that are different from other schools, and can only be experienced by actually being here.
That said, it is definitely not the end of the world if its not economically/logistically feasible to come visit. The admissions officers know that not everyone has the opportunity to visit and they wont hold that against you. But, make sure to demonstrate your interest in other waysthe Why Rice essays should be very specific and detail-oriented.
