If one were to finish undergrad with a 4.0 GPA and a couple of excellent internships or research opportunities, would that be enough to get accepted into a top MBA program such as Chicago? (assuming I crafted a creative essay with good rec's etc).

Are you talking about going directly to a top MBA program immediately after undergrad without any work experience?

If so, the answer is no, I don't think just a 4.0 with excellent internships would be enough and even recommendations. The whole mission of a top MBA program is to develop leaders, not to create them.

You must already be a leader or show very high potential of becoming a leader in your chosen career after your MBA. With that said, work experience is the single most important factor in the MBA admissions process. It is so important that if it manages to be incredible, it can make up for a low gmat and even low undergrad gpa.

Use the gpa and excellent internships, to get an excellent job for about 3-4 years. If you apply then, you will be in much better shape than without any work experience, even given the high gpa for undergrad.

Nope. That stuff rarely works without work experience.
