Hey, I just got into Northeastern University about a week ago, which is before the regular deadline for applications. I applied back in early December, so I think I only sent my first quarter grades of my senior year. However, I did rather poorly compared to my first quarter. Since Northeastern has already accepted me, but haven’t seen my first semester grades (includes 2nd qtr and midterms), can they take back my acceptance because of my grades? I don’t want them to think that I’m slacking or anything. I’m in honors and AP classes, but got a D for the first semester in AP Govt, a subject that has absolutely nothing to do with my career and major. I managed As and Bs for everything else, it’s just that one letter that drives my nuts. Give any insight please

Yes, colleges can rescind admissions. It probably says something about this in the acceptance letter - something like "Your acceptance is contingent upon maintenance of the same high academic and personal standards..."

I don't think I did exceptionally well, but I managed. For the semester I got:

AP Physics C - B+
AP Govt - D
Hrs Calc - B+
Hrs Eng - B
Spanish IV - B+
Media Values - A

I don't think those scores are really that bad, but I think that "D" really sticks out anytime anyone sees my grades.

That D could hurt you, but I don't know what Northeastern's policies are...

you may want to have your counselor explain that D (assuming it was not because you voluntarily slacked off).

If you are accepted I wouldn't send them your mid year grades. They probably don't need them anyway if you were already accepted. I think you would only be rescined if you fail a subject at the and of the year.

Hey there. I got a D too for Biology...no idea why I'm doing that darn subject, I'm the only one in my class who isn't pursuing Medicine at university. Should've taken PE or something, even though I have no athletic skills whatsoever.

So, we suffer together. But really, I know everyone here will tell you that the one D will kill your chances, but nobody here is an admissions counselor (unless in disguise) so it'd be a little inaccurate to say that your offer'd be rescinded outright.

I was afraid at first that I would have no hope at the universities I applied to with my D, but it's silly to fear something when you have no control over the situation. So I say, don't pull your hair out because there's not much you can do, but also don't get your hopes up. It's best to stay neutral. :)

they can take back your acceptance... but I think they'd wait to see if you pulled your grades up second semester, so if you can improve you'll prob. be ok. You might also want to check Northeastern's specific rules

Shadow...are you sure, i hope so..I too got a D in AP calc BC (i got an 800 SAT and 760 IC go figure) and my teacher is mean. I got into U michigan and my school AUTOMATICALLY sends MIDYEAR reports to every school..so they wont revoke in the middle of the year or would they...cause im scared and cant concentrate(i have a valid excuse but still)...and i also got 2 C;s and 2 B;s (4/5 AP's) PLEASE HELP!!thanks

Oh man, talk about a head ache - after being accepted EA to MIT, I have AP Chem. We've had two tests. One I got a 79 on - the other I failed. So, I've probably got a 70 average in that class. I've never EVER had below a B average at any point in any class. And now I've got a full blown C on the verge of D.

As long as your semester average drops only one letter grade (from A to B, B to C, etc.) and you pass all your classes, I don't think they'll rescind your admission, even at MIT.

i hope not
how about a c to a d..on the midyear report
nothing would happen if i ended up w/ a high C low B at the end of the year,,,im afraid they wont give me the second semester chance to raise it....what do u guys think??
