Can a Georgia Tech student have fun?

Hi, I heard from a woman who had a daughter in Georgia Tech that the school has her daughter under constant pressure? She is 24/7 studying, doing projects and working. Also, she is in a bunch of clubs and organizations so maybe that makes her more occupied. But she told me that the school in general had a huge level of competitiveness , everybody wants to be the best and because of that, everyone studies like crazy everyday without stopping. She went to visit her daughter and she was on stress everyday, studied till 2 am, and didn't have much time to go out with her mother shopping or dining. I want to study Industrial Engineering and was amazed about Georgia Tech being the number 1 on this career, but after hearing this I lost a little bit of interest. I KNOW that college is hard work and more competitive than high school and I KNOW I will have to study a lot, I don't mind that, I love to effort myself and get good grades. But I don't like a huge stressful environment without any time to hang out or going out. College is a lot of studying, but also it is about having fun, I mean, I want to remember my college years as fun and not as horrible and stressful years. Even though being at Georgia Tech gets you amazing interships and well paid jobs, its not worth it if you didnt enjoy getting it.

Yes, you can have fun there! I went in the 80’s, met my wife and fantastic friends. Atlanta’s a great city. Football, basketball and many other traditions bind the student body together. It’s a very collaborative environment where you’ll fall in with groups of friendly and interesting students to work through projects and problem sets. IE is a fantastic major! Many of my IE friends went on to get their MBA’s from Harvard, Kellogg, Wharton and other schools and have fulfilling careers and family lives.

Our best friend’s son and some of my daughter’s friends are there now and having a wonderful social experiences.

Go to a night football game and sit in the student section, and you’ll get a feel for the fun and energy there.

Best of Luck!

Are you a girl or a guy? My son is a sophomore EE major at Georgia Tech. He does have to study a lot however he has time to do Research in the Aerospace lab. He is glad that he is going there. His Girlfriend that he met freshman year is AE major which is supposed to be one of the hardest major there. She has time to do AE research and be in a sorority. Both of them have good grades. Is GT hard yes ? But they still have time to have fun.
