Can a great SAT 2 make up for a lesser SAT 1 (in the same general subject)?

I took 2 subject tests in Literature and Math 2 and did really well- 780/800. I actually performed a little bit better for those SAT 2s than I did on the SAT I CR and Math sections. I'm planning on retaking the SAT 1, but haven't prepared yet (senior year is torture!). Would colleges look at my SAT 2s (which are harder!) and think that I know the subjects well enough, or would they still treat the SAT 2s and SAT 1 scores diferently even though the subjects are basically the same (math and reading)?

i think most colleges will give it some consideration. the only college which i know of which has said anything to that effect is northwestern, which says that high SAT IIs offset low SAT I scores. i imagine most other schools feel the same way.

i have the same question. found out i got a 780 on my math 2 subject test today, but i have a 720 math score on the general sat.

Ahh! Thank you for replying!

I'm glad you heard that from Northwestern. I don't know, but there's hardly anything about this by college reps online, so I wasn't sure. It makes sense, though, no? I'd think that getting a 5 on an AP BC calculus test would probably offset a 3/4 in AB, you know?

I'm gonna retake the SAT 1, but it'd be nice to know if my SAT 2 scores give me a safety net.
