Long story short, I have a 3.8 GPA (4.2 freshman year, 3.6 junior year because of an illness) and I received a 2000< x < 2100 on my SAT. I take APs and have all A’s but my current school doesn’t add any weight to these classes, if they did I would have a 4.0. I know these stats aren’t absolutely incredible, but I am an American student who lived overseas in India and I am proficient in Hindu (now I live in California so life is different). I have also received international recognition from the top media companies and from some of the most influential people because of what I do, as well as appeared on a number of lists as one of the most “inspiring people in the world.” I know this seems weird, but I do not know how else to phrase it. I talked about this in my essay, as well as about losing my brother to Leukemia sophomore year and how that affected me.
I suppose I’m not asking for a “chance” evaluation, although it would seem like it by listing vague personal info, but I am curious if Harvard has accepted applicants like me in the past whose grades/SAT are less than outstanding.
Sorry if this is an inappropriate place to ask this question, I just applied RD for the class of 2020 and my heart has been racing since. Thanks for your time!
We don’t know OP. That’s the beauty of this “holistic” admissions process: stories like yours where GPA/SAT aren’t perfect, but you are a (seemingly) bright person, is an unpredictable decision H will eventually cast. Good luck, and keep us posted.
No one who hits the “submit” button should expect great results. Accept that and move on. “heart racing”?? You’ve done great for 3.5 years. Continue on that trajectory. Whatever school you attend will be lucky to have you. Put Harvard out of your mind – no one has good chances.
@T26E4 - No one has good chances? You know that isn’t true. There is one group for whom HYPS are basically safeties: academically strong recruited athletes.
