I currently hold one W in my college transcript which I got very early on in a community college class I took the summer after my sophomore year in high school. I am very determined to get into a top business school but could this prove to be a problem? I know a single W might not seem like much but I hear W's can raise a red flag for grad school and with the competitiveness of a top business school will they look down on someone with a W on their transcript seeing as how there will likely be many other apps with none?

I hope I'm not making too big a deal out of this but it's been kind of bugging me lately.

I very SERIOUSLY doubt that a single W would keep you out of a top ranked b-school.

Also keep in mind that the importance of your college record shrinks as you gain more actual job experience.

Example:

I have a good friend who graduated from UCLA majoring in business economics with a 2.8-2.9 GPA. He applied to b-school 4 or 5 years out of college, after some work experience, and was accepted to Haas, Anderson, and several other top b-schools.

My uncle is another "freak" example in that he graduated with a degree in EE from Clemson University about 20-30 years ago. Just last year Stanford invited him to go through their MBA program, free of charge. Just goes to show that the more noteworthy your work experience, the easier it is to get into top business schools.

poppin3000, thank you for the reassurance! And the story of your friend and especially your uncle is pretty crazy. This is the type of thing that sets a fire under me to do better and reach higher in my goals. Thanks again.
