Hi! I have a question about financial aid at Duke University. My family is VERY low income, <$10,000/year. Assuming that I was accepted, what would be the standard procedure for someone in my situation? Is the financial aid mostly in loans, or is it largely in the form of need-based grants/scholarships? For example, I know that at Harvard University, anyone making under $40,000 is automatically not obligated to pay a single cent towards their education.

If I had to take out any more than $5,000 per year in loans, I do not think that I could attend your college because it is my goal to attend medical school directly afterwards... If that were the case, I could not pay off my loans and go through 4 more years of medical school. Please offer advice! Thank you!

Not really going to be able to help you ...

I do not work in Financial Aid.

What I do know about financial aid at JOHNS HOPKINS, is that we work very closely with low income students who are admitted. There is no set policies like some other universities, but in many cases low income students that are admitted and have filed the correct financial aid documents on time will be packaged with full need and little to no loans.

The best piece of advice ... contact the Financial Aid Office at Hopkins to speak about your specific case.

Thank you so much! I'm sorry about calling it Duke!! LOL I just replied to a thread asking about a Duke essay before I posted this, so I had Duke on the brain. :) Thanks again!
