CD: I laughed over the nude comment. I love that there are students at Reed who say things like, "I'm just disappointed that we're not having as many naked events each week as we used to. Aside from the skinning dipping and noise parades, what else is there? It just seems a shame."

DS1 pointed out that UChicago has a Polar Bear Run and sent me the link, with pictures (with blurring where appropriate). BRRRR! Portland would be a better place for outdoor nakedness, if you ask me. DS2 does sports, and the Greeks used to do their sports in the nude, which is why I suppose this got his attention. Could also have been his 6th grade English teacher who went to St. John's and coordinated the Greek Festival every spring, too.

Counting down- I agree with you- polar bear events are actually dangerous- a big shock to the circulatory system. Someone died locally- I think in Vancouver. Polar brrrrr! Hundreds turn out for a chilly tradition
brr- at least I think the skinny dipping at Reed was in the swimming pool, since the canyon lake would be fairly yucky. :p

I don't like extremes in temp- I sat in the hot tub at the mountains surrounded by snow- but it is bad enough covering it back up again with just my bathing suit on- I didn't roll in the snow like my daughter.

I also thought I recognized my D as one of the picts at Renn Fayre one year, but I didn't want to know.
Not that I really care- it seems harmless-and the bonfires and shooting flaming jack o lanterns sounds fun.

If I had attended college it would have been just the sort of place I liked- except for all the homework.
And the no big sports teams.
And the lack of gut classes ;)

Emeraldkity4,
From what I saw (!) of the link DS1 showed me, UChicago's Polar Bear event was a run, not a dip in the water. Still looked pretty darned cold! :D (visualize chattering teeth here)
