Can anyone list these schools in order of 'rank'

I'm just looking to see what the order of these schools are in order of rank or prestige, from "best" to "worst"

Boston College
Boston University
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell
Fordham U
Macaulay honors college at CUNY
NYU
Northeastern
Polytechnic
Rensselaer
Saint Johns (ny)
SUNY Stony brook

People might answer this for you, but it is about the dumbest question I have seen on here yet. Sorry to be so blunt, but how the hell can that be done other than pure opinion, which will be meaningless. For God’s sake.

I agree, we know nothing about you, so how can we possibly say what’s best for you?

^ lol even though they don’t want to, i will:

 1. cornell
 2. carnegie mellon
 3. bc
 4. nyu
 5. fordham
 6. bu
 7. rpi
 8. macauley/polytechnic/northeastern
 9. stony brook
 10. st. johns

mix of my opinion and what i hear from others

Ironicallyunsure, you are hoping that your Cornell reputation will mean something. It is not reputation of the college, but your college performance that will determine job search or graduate school admission. There are many bright students whose parents cannot afford to pay the private universities.

Cornell

NYU

Carnegie Mellon

BC

BU

Fordham

RPI

The rest

wannabemd, but that is not what the OP asked is it?

all he asked for is reputation and rank, nothing more nothing less

nothing about what graduate schools he will be able to get into, nothing about the affordability of the colleges

so stop your nonsense

Cornell

Carnegie Mellon

NYU

BC

RPI

BU

Fordham

The rest

Objective rankings, for the most part, are meaningless compared to your major, your future plans, your “fit”, and your priorities. SO… my POV. A lot of colleges are “lopsided” in their strengths.

Cornell

Macaulay Honors at CUNY

Carnegie

BC

NYU/Fordham

Stony Brook (for science/math)

St. Johns PHARM

Now based on name recognition and how much you can impress your family, friends, and complete strangers:

 1. Cornell
 2. NYU
 3. CMU
 4. BC
 5. Most people don’t care about the rest

“but how the hell can that be done other than pure opinion, which will be meaningless”

Just about 90 pct at least is opinion at CC. THis is like a bar - but with keyboards and mice instead of miller light - or do you prefer heineken, less filling or tastes great? CC members ,what say you? :)

Stanley Schacter the psychologist did research on what people do when they feel a little uneasy and anxious - they talk to each other, alot.

Trying to choose between colleges can be daunting. You’re trying to look into the future which is necessarily dark. Chaos theory , unintended consequences governs. One thing , however, that you can rely : it will cost a TON of money for this 4 yr adventure, $150,000-$200,000 gross, and good ol’ alma mater will be up close and personal with you many yrs , even decades hence. That can get one a little uneasy right there.

Look at the nat’l 4 yr retention rate , something less than , what, 40 pct, if I recall. The biggest thing people need to know in choosing a college is THEMSELVES, what they know is important and what rally moves them. And since HS seniors do not , necessarily, have such a high developed understanding of themselves, mostly because they are still growing and developing, we get… ignorance, unease, anxiety, opinion… and talk. Same with the students’ guardians, or ex guardians, or guarantors, or whatever–parents (since the students are at once children and adults)!

viva la College ConfidentiAL!

Pour me another one, bartender. :)

OP, first I will define what I mean by ‘prestige’…

“If prestige means name the greatest recognition over the greatest distance, TUFTs wd edge Bowdoin (“you mean the football coach?”) from where I am , chicago in the mw.”

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/906506-tufts-vs-bowdoin-cannot-decide-t__t.html?highlight=prestige

Some more perspective on chasing prestige that I read in these posts recently was by a ‘ghostbuster’ if I recall

OP, I like burrrns lists and post above.

Burrns, take a look at the Williams thread that discusses McCaulay, you would be surprised at what some students who have friends attending that program are saying …not good…
