has anyone here applied and got accepted early decision to wellesley? if so what are your stats? Also, can anyone tell me about their experience at WC?

Someone on this board has to have some Info on Wellesley. can any1 help me out? I applied ED :) anyone else apply for ED 2005?

I applied ED also. This next month and a half is going to be killer.

hbanana-
where you from/what made you apply ED?

I applied ED too! That's so cool! Good luck to all of us, wouldn't it be cool to be classmates next year?

check out prstats.com

I applied ED also! We should hear by the 15th . . . get ready ladies!

I'm from NJ, I'm the only one from my school who applied ED to Wellesley, and only 1 other girl is applying regular (BUT she applied to Harvard ED).

Where are you all from?

NYC...and I'm first girl in my school to apply to Wellesley (or any women's college for that matter) in the last 8 years...my school now is single-sex so that's why a lot of girls want co-ed for college...i met SO MANY cool people when I overnighted at Wellesley...we most definately have to report back if we get in, it would be so great to know people before school starts (of course kind of embarassing that we met on College Confidential LOL)

I didn't spend a night, do you (or anyone) think that this will have a negative effect on my application?

SkepticalSeniorNYC: yes it would be nice to know people, BUT i need to stop assuming that i am going there. The other day, my bio teacher was talking about how the only class she every failed was her field hockey ph. ed requirement in college... and i said "oh yea, we have that too...." as if i already got in/went to wellesley!

this sort of thing is happening to a lot of my friends also. We're going insane.

LOL Margaux...i know EXACTLY what you mean...i went running today with my friend who is applying to Stanford. it was beautiful in NYC and as we walk out the door she says "next year at this time you'll be buried in 3 ft of snow", my reply was "next year at this time you'll be surfing". i agree, we're all GOING INSANE!

I got my letter yesterday and i'm in. The school is absolutely amazing. Its where i thought i belonged and i guess i was right. Yay class of 2009!!

I guess I could tell you a little something about Wellesley :)

I just finished my first semester here...

It's quite nice. I like it here. Every student here is very intelligent, well-rounded, and of course, were amazing in high school. Girls here are also very over-achiever-ish. Dinner conversations seem to range from intellectual topics such as "what constitutes the nature of Good?" to "OMG COLIN FIRTH IS SOOOO HOTTTTT."

All professors here are pretty amazing. This is the first time in my life I actually admired my teachers. All professors here are noted experts in one field of study-- in fact, I believe that my professors have either published a book or are in the processing of publishing one.

The campus is beautiful, serene. Wellesley the town isn't my favorite. It's very homogenous and affluent. The shops are expensive. You'll see little teenage girls walk around with Coach bags.

There are buses going into Boston every hour.

If you want an active social life, then you might not find it here. BUT, that depends on what you define as "social life." If social life means attending frat parties and getting drunk on a regular basis.... then you won't have much fun here. But if social life means watching a bad chick flick with your Wellesley sisters... then this school is for you :)

Wellesley girls tend to complain all day and study all night. You never cease to hear the words "I'm offended!"

By the way, I'm just trying to paint an accurate picture of the Wellesley life :D

But you'll be surprised as too how many girls here already want to transfer because of the lack of social life. We'd rather do homework on a Friday night than go out. Just... be prepared for that.

Other than that, Wellesley is nice :)

Wow this was a very fragmented post. Sorry about that. If you have any more questions, you're welcome to e-mail me.

i heard its going coed? True? ^_^

I've heard this rumor somewhere else, and as far I know, it's completely bogus.

Personally, I hope Wellesley never goes co-ed.

wellesley is NOT going co-ed, i was at an alumna tea this fall and they discussed how the subject was brought up within the administration. They asked all the alum and they all said that they would be extremely upset if wellesley went co-ed.

Wellesley's alumna have A LOT of input in what happens at the school

IF wellesley does go co-ed, they will loose a lot of money, because the alumna donate so much each year, and they will stop donating to a co-ed school!

the_wallflower- i found your post provocative- if you've been keeping up with the threads, i've been deferred... and now i'm wondering is wellesley the right school for me? Yes, movie nights with the girls are always great, but i'm not brilliant... and no i'm not being modest. i come from a very very competitive high school and yes i work hard, but overacheiver is not associated with my name. i really loved the town of wellesley, probably because it reminds me of home...and don't get me started on the little girls with coach bags! You say complain all day and study all night. I confess i love to sleep... i heard there is a popular wellesley bumper sticker, "we'll sleep when we're dead!", is that true? As for the social life, i pride myself in my social network. i am a social person who can't get enough time to spend with my friends! is everyone at wellesley a "wallflower"- my apologies for the pun. no harm intended.

I don't blame you for raising these questions.

I admit I was being too general and stereotypical in my portrayal of Wellesley.

I'll just address your questions one by one.
-- "We'll sleep when we're dead" This I've heard before. In some ways, it's quite true that this campus comes alive at 1 AM and students down caffeine (caffiene?) pills to keep them awake to finish a paper. But for the most part this is caused by procrastination. So, don't procrastinate :) I don't, and the lastest I've stayed up on a school night is 1 AM. I'm usually in bed at around 11 or 12 (some people call me a freak... but whatever).

-- Social life. There are many girls like you who have strong social networks. At Wellesley, it's possible to have one. In fact, I feel that in college it's easier to keep up with your network of friends. It doesn't hurt when your close friends live across the hall from you :D. In my previous post, I didn't mean to convey that you'll be totally alone with no friends at all. I find everyone here so friendly and kind, it's very hard not to get along with any of them.

-- Is everyone at Wellesley a "wallflower"? No. Actually that's a screenname I made up on a whim 'cause the other I wanted was already taken... but... no. It's hard to describe Wellesley women in such few adjectives. It's a given that everybody's smart. But we're so diverse, not only ethnically, but personality wise as well.

I hope this kind of clarifies things.

And keep in mind, what I've said is only one of the many varied perspectives on Wellesley.

Oh wow, thanks for everything you've written about Wellesley and particularly Wellesley's environment/atmosphere, wallflower. Wellesley is one of my top choice schools, and I am applying EE. From the way you describe it, I feel that socially, I would fit right in to Wellesley. My average bedtime is around 1-2AM (and yes, due to procrastination, hehe), I'm not the drunk-at-frat-parties type of socialite, and while I love having intellectually stimulating discussions, I must admit to participating in my fair share of total fangirl-ish conversations. You've really encouraged me, thanks. ^^

I'm a Wellesley alum active in my class, so I've been back to the campus pretty regularly over the past couple of years. I also have two daughters in college (not Wellesley) so I've seen a lot of other campuses over the past few years.

One thing you should know about Wellesley is that it is fantastically wealthy, with a ridiculously high endowment for the size of the school. This translates into wonderful stuff for students, such as beautiful facilities, phenomenal technology, and lots of perks like internship grants.

I also think that Wellesley will go coed when hell freezes over. This issue was thoroughly hashed out in the 1970s, when Vassar went coed and Radcliffe basically disappeared altogether into Harvard, and the overwhelming consensus was: no way.

It's Wells College that's going co-ed next year, not Wellesley.
