Can anyone tell me more about the freshmen experience program ?

I'm looking to apply to Harrison college house and I am aware that it is tough to get in as a freshmen and the best say is to apply to the freshmen experience program. I would like to know more about this program, such as the events and activities this program organize for the members. Do the activities occupy a lot of our time? I hope you guys can help me out. Thank you.

Hi Yxinny!

So the only way to get into Harrison as a freshman is through the FreshEx residential program. I HIGHLY suggest applying to it. I’m a freshman now in it and I LOVE it and would never ever ever ever ever want to live in the Quad (it.is.overrated.). They just have a lot of different events for the freshmen. Carnival, Movie Nights, we’re having a cook off this friday. You don’t have to go to any of the events but why wouldn’t you? You get to see shows and movies for free and most of the time you get free food from local restaurants. Plus your RAs have budgets to do hall events for just your floor. Additionally, there are a small number of upperclassmen living on your floor too to as mentors.
APPLY APPLY APPLY!

I want to apply to this program as well, is there any way of guarantee getting into this program?

And do you have any advice for the meal plans? I’m a bit confused on which plan to pick.

Thanks

There is no guaranteed way of getting in. The only thing I suggest is talking about why you would be a good asset to the program (fun, outgoing, would attend events, would make sure others in hall are having fun) and also talk about the mentorship aspect of it (you like that there are upperclassmen on your floor, talk about mentorship experience you’ve had if any)

for dining plans I have the most amount of dining dollars and least amount of meal swipes. I still have plenty of both left. I can’t say the same for my friends…
But you will get tired of dining halls. Unless you live in Hill or Kings Court, get the plan with the most dining dollars.

Ok, I see. Thanks!!! I definitely will try to show them what I got. But yeah, I would really love to get to know some upper classmen; that’s what really got me motivated and through high school! So does this mean there is an interview for the spot after housing choices are submitted?

How many meals do you eat a day typically? and How much is a typical meal/snack using dining dollars? Are you not eating as many meals because being busy is preventing you from doing so? I’m a pretty big eater, so I’m worried that the BEN and BFF plan won’t provide enough food as does the all you can eat plan. How many dining places does the all you can eat place include?

Finally, where are most of the Wharton classes located? Huntsman Hall? I know I am asking a boat load of questions, so your answers are always greatly appreciated.

Hello hopeful201! Thanks a lot for the information you gave me! It really helped me a lot in deciding where I should apply to. No no I definitely wanna attend the events but I’m just not sure if I can attend all of it as I’m a varsity player. I definitely would love to attend as many events as possible! are there any other suggestions to write my essay? Such as stuff I shouldnt write about? Or stuff that I should write about and that will increase my chances of getting in? I’m just abit clueless on how should i write this essay. I hope you can help me out as i really really wanna join the program and also live at the Harrison colege house. Thank you!

OOquanta:

No, no interview. Just your essay haha. So make it good! They just want fun people.
How many meals I eat a day? well let’s see. I don’t really sit down and eat meals. So I would say I had two meals today. But in between those meals I had free cookies lol. So I wasn’t starving. THERE IS ALWAYS FREE FOOD SOMEWHERE.

Meals using dining dollars depend on what you get. You can get a bagel with butter for a dollar something at ABP, or get pasta at houston for like, 6 something. It just depends. Just spend your money wisely and you’ll be fine.
I don’t eat that many meals because I’m super busy and I eat at weird hours, which happens a lot in college so you may end up going to Wawa or Fresh grocer or ordering food late at night.
There are four dining halls that accept swipes, spread out throughout campus. The latest stays open til 9 though so it suckssss when you want food at like, 11. which you will haha. But again, see where you’re living first (I think you guys have time to decide on meal plans, right?) because if you live in Hill or Kings Court you’ll want more swipes.

Most Wharton classes are in Huntsman, yes. They’re also in Steiny D which is on Locust Walk between 36th and 37th. Pretty much middle of campus. I haven’t had any classes in Steiny D yet though. They’ve all been in Huntsman.

Yxinny:
PM me your email address and I’ll send you my essay so you can get an idea of what they might want.
Feel free to do so too OOquanta

Hopeful201, I’ve pm you my email address. Thanks for offering to send me your essay. I really appreciate it. Thanks again! :)

hi there  im also considering applying to the freshman ex program. do you mind sending me your essay too? i’ll pm you my email if you can.

oh and if i have a friend i want to room with, how would that work out w/ this program? would be both have to apply and get in?

thanks in advance for your help!! :D

Hey there, sparklyumbrellas! Yep, that’s what I did this year–my roommate and I requested each other and both wrote essays for fresh-ex. So yeah, both of you have to apply and get in.

Hi guys I’m currently debating which college house to pick.

My top choices at the moment are the Quad and one of the high rises.
For the Quad: I hear this is where they have the most freshman and activities, and the location is supposed to be pretty close to all your classes. However, how is the noise and facilities? I dormed in the Quad this summer and it wasn’t too bad although there were some cockroaches…

For a high rise: these are supposed to be newer, have nicer rooms and facilities (correct me if I’m wrong). However, I’m not too sure how hard it would be to get one of these since there are lots of upperclassmen… can someone shed some light on this? I’ve heard a lot fo people tell me to apply to the FreshEx program; how many people get into this? I’m very interested in this program since it offers a small community and mentoring. I’m just a little worried about how social the high rise(s) are… are there still events/ Can we still go to events in the Quad?

Also, if you could message me your FreshEx app that would be great as well.

Much appreciated

Haha sorry I’m new to this. How do PMs work?

So, what did you all write for the fresh ex program? I’m hoping that my essay was good enough
