Can AP Exam scores help you get admitted to college?

I was wondering because my AP scores are good, and I would like to know if that can help boost my chances.

Most schools do not weigh in AP scores for admission. For schools that consider AP scores, they would be treated like additional subject tests. So good AP scores may have a little bit help only if you are sitting on the fence and being compared with someone with similar credential.

They’re a validation of your AP grade and, in some circumstances, can add shine. But they can’t make up for a so-so record, for various good reasons.

Ok because on the common app it does not have a place to enter AP test scores so is that something I should put in the additional information box at the end of the application?

There are some schools like Bryn Mawr [Standardized Testing Requirements | Admissions | Bryn Mawr College](http://www.brynmawr.edu/admissions/apply/tests.html) that use AP tests in place of SAT/ACT. Test Flexible.

kyle76 you could also list this in the academic achievement section.

You should also check the schools to see what their AP credit policy is. Getting credit is a totally separate process from admission.

mitchklong…where is the academic achievement section on the common app?

And yes, I’ve already looked to see what schools accept as far as AP credit.

If you say you want to self-report test scores, there’s an option to choose AP tests, and that’s where you can put your scores

The CA absolutely has a place to enter it under the testing section and it is very straight forward. However, you have to tell it the # of AP tests first and then the details open up. Now, obviously, if you are entering “planned” AP exam dates then you would not enter scores.

Must have completely missed that. Wow. Thanks a lot.
