Can failing an elective cause my acceptances to be rescinded?

So I'm pretty much failing or almost failing one of my elective classes right now. It's a non-academic, discussion-based class about current events and the like. I haven't really done anything in this class all year so my grade is pretty low.
Is this going to look bad? (I'm presuming yes)
Can this give any school I've been accepted to or will be accepted to a reason to take away my acceptance? (Again, presuming yes :p)

What do I do? :/

Yes to both as you believed. What you can do is become involved in the class and raise the grade. Did you really need someone to tell you this?

Well, yeah, just to make sure…
I did somehow get in with a D on my transcript from another class.

And raising a grade is easier said than done. The people in that class are insane and it’s hard to break into the conversation. Guess I’ll have to try though. Failing would not be good.

Aren’t they managing to do it?

I think you already know the answer to your own question. You just wish there were a different answer. Understandable–but not very realistic.

back to the original question (although I would love to help the OP pay attention in class…)

If a student is taking a number of electives senior year that are not required to graduate, and is not doing particularly well in them (C or lower) will colleges rescind? and I’m not talking about highly selective here but rather middle of the pack…

most admissions letters state that the student has to “graduate in good standing”…nothing more…

it depends on the school. The UC system, for example, says they can revoke acceptances if you don’t get a certain GPA (varies by UC campus) or if you get a grade of D or lower in any class.

My advice is to notify every school you applied to at the end of this semester if you get a D or F. If it matters you’re better off finding out before acceptances are given in the spring. And places you’re applying may be willing to work with you if the grade matters; they may tell you to take it in summer school, etc. The alternative is to say/do nothing, and if it turns out it matters then during the summer when they review your final transcript you could be rescinded and at that point you have few options other than a local community college.

I

Yes, if you have a D or F you may either *be automatically rescinded, or *possibly be rescinded.
AR some universities a D will fly in a non essential class but never an F.
What university are you admitted to ?
Stop looking for excuses, start watching and reading the news (and/or, if you’re a stem person, fivethirryeight,) start talking, and bring your grade to a C.
