Can I apply for Financial Aid in sophomore year?

hey im an international student (korean) accepted through ED.
i didnt apply for financial aid when i applied, but now i figure i might need aid in my sophomore year.
can i apply for one in sophomore year??
also how competitive is the scholarships for international students? are they based on how well u do in school academically??

thanks in advance.

please guys..bump..

I want to ask the same question...Can anyone answer?

You can apply for financial aid at any time but as an international student it will probably be difficult. I am not sure how Cornell's new financial aid policy will affect the chances for an international student to get aid.

If you do get aid....your package will be based on your family's income/assests. So it will be grant money and loans if need be. Cornell has some scholarships, but they are not merit based. They are usually awarded through your college if you qualify for one. I have two scholarships from CALS that were awarded based on my leadership activities...

I believe that international students are not eligible to apply for the same kinds of financial aids as domestic students. The university might give u loans, but not aids unless u have permanent residency (green card).

To dewdrop87 and patlees88: Thanks for the info. and can you tell me some details about the loan?

You wouldn't be eligible for federal loans....so your options would be the Cornell loan (not totally sure if you're eligible) and private loans...the private loans are credit based, sometimes have crazy interest rates and require non-US citizens to have a US citizen co-signer
