Hi, I am current junior who wants to apply to colleges through the common application. I was wondering if this is a good idea since I am aiming for top schools and will want to apply again next year if I do not get in this year. Will this look bad if I apply again in senior year or instead show dedication and make me stand out?
I also want to apply to some colleges for fun just to see where I stand as a junior, so will applying this year adversely affect my chances next year if I do not get in?
(and not to sound pretentious but I do think I have the stats and ECs at this point to be an average (not amazing) applicant at some prestigious schools)
Please let me know if you know anyone who has done this or have any insight regarding the common app on this matter.
You cannot apply as a junior unless the college has a program that allows juniors to apply and skip senior year of high school if admitted. Some colleges have such progams and others do not. Moreover, you have to check the colleges because for the junior admission program, they may have special applications and application requirements other than the common app. And understand that for those junior admission programs, the ones that get accepted are usually a very small protion of those “amazing” applicants.
College do not like applications from students doing it for “fun”. Your statement makes you appear like someone who will stand little chance of being admitted at all.
You’re wasting everyone’s time with this idea. Make a Common App account and fill out the applications to see what they are for your own education about it, however do not send anything!!! It would be incredibly annoying to every admissions officer everywhere.
