Can I apply to other schools before I apply to my Early Decision school?

Some of the schools I've been considering as back-ups are already starting to accept applications. However, I'm applying to my goal school in November through Early Decision.

So... I'm wondering... could I go ahead and apply to the schools that are already accepting applications before I apply Early Decision to my goal school?

Is that allowed?

It depends on the school you are applying to ED. Go to its website and look at the “rules” or call the admissions office and ask. Most schools let you apply to rolling decision/early action schools even if you apply ED – but there are some that don’t.

yes… as long as you withdraw any pending apps if you get accepted into the ED school.

I’ll have my admission decisions for these schools before I even submit my Early Decision application. Will this change things?

Anyone else know?

The ONLY place that knows for sure is the college you are applying to ED. Why not ask its admissions office?

Yes you need to check as this varies greatly from school-to-school.
For example, Brown’s rule is that if you apply to Brown ED the only other application you can have pending is to your state U.

Thanks, guys. I called the admissions office and got my answer.
