I feel like my first year at Ross would not be a good time to study abroad...anyone have any advice or experience with this?

A ton of Ross kids study abroad during May after their sophomore and junior years. You can’t do it during the academic year because of the core class requirements and most people need to be back for their internships in June.

so you’re saying i can’t study abroad second semester sophomore year?

No you have to be in Ann Arbor during the fall and winter semesters during your time in the bschool.

You can do summer programmes through LSA as well and still be able to study abroad for a complete 12 weeks (so about as long as you would for a semester). Ross offers programs that are 3 1/2 weeks long during May. Summer after sophomore year is the most opportune time to study abroad if you want to do Ross as well as go somewhere long term. If studying abroad during an academic semester is very important to you, unfortunately Ross will not let you do that so you should look into other majors.
