Can I apply top grad schools? Plz help me.

Hi, all! I am new here. And This-Forum-Is-Awsome!!!
I just want to ask questions about applying grad school.
I am an international student, and have been in America for two years. I'm going to apply the 2011 fall's MS.

Undergrad: Ohio University (Famous Party School)
Major: EE
GPA: 3.88
Major(2): Applied Math
GPA:4.0
GRE's: I am taking in July. Probably, the score will be Math: 800, Verbal: 550 AW: 4.5

Research:
- Lab expreience: Worked in OU control lab with grad students and a prof for one quarter.

internships: I am doing a co-op at a international company as a control engineer this
quarter.
Honors: Tau Beta Pi

Sosocal: International Students Union's member, Chinese Student & Scholar Association's
president, OU Math Club member.

Just worried about that my school is not good, and I don't have strong research expreiences. But I really want to apply top 10 EE schools. (stanford is the one I want most.) Do you guys think will I have a chance? Or what should be my realistic targets?
Tks!!!

well, I think if you can fund yourself, you probably have decent shots for MS programs of top 10 EE schools.

Thanks, pocket. But I just looked up the tuition of each school in top 10. At least I need 45K per year, then I’m probably not able to get that much money. If I do need a finance aid and I want to stay in west coast, is there any good suggestions? Thanks again.

Yes, you’ve got a shot.

OU is fine, don’t need to worry about that at all.

Your GPA is solid, but really lack of research experience, work on that part.
(unfortunately working experience doesn’t help grad school admission very much)
IMO if you have a choice, rather work in a lab for the summer versus going into industry, working full time in lab is different than working 20hrs/week in lab, you maybe able to deliver some real lab work if you spend 3 months in a lab full time, and get some great rec letters from the PI

Thanks Slorg and Mr.Zoo.
I’ll try to get back to the lab I worked at. Thank you guys so much!!
