well i got my schedule and they are putting me in regular english freshman year. First i was cool with this since i didn't like honors classes last year. Now i am thinking i can use my electives to play around and use the core classes to actually learn something. I can come up with good stories but i don't have the greatest grammar. I am also a really good reader can i ask to be moved into a honors or ap class ? I don't think they have ap for ninth graders but i think i could do it.

Okay, what were your 8th grade english grades?

i got a c in english

I would say go with honors…it will prepare you more from an AP class. Study hard to get good grades.

If you put together a well-thought out rationale for honors and present yourself well (written or verbal) they might let you in - but you will need your 8th grade teacher’s recommendation.

But really, if you are getting Cs in English, you might not be a candidate for the higher level work. Good grades are the passport to high level classes. A C sayes to the administration that you are not up to honors or AP level work; I’m not surprised that they school put you back in regular level classes. You’ll have to do something this summer to show the school that the C was an anomaly, and not reflective of your true potential. In this year’s regular English, knock the ball out of the ball park. Every day and on every assignment do work above and beyond the regular class level. It will be up to you to become an honors level student: this summer or next year. You can get there but you need to do the heavy lifting.

Analyze your original sentence and ask yourself if your grammar is solid enough to be in Honors English.

yea i got a c doing absolutely nothing in class i was pretty ****ed off about something that happened to me and then i got put in a class where i had no friends and no offense to anyone on here but they were all asian nerds and pretty much excluded me from everything so i just sat in class and listened to music i got a c from tests and reading groups i know i can do the work since i have been beyond 12th grade reading level since 6th grade

Didn’t i say that my grammar was crap? I went to a bad school when i was younger and didn’t learn about punctuation. It gets better if i actually try but it doesn’t come second nature to me.

I’ll start giving you lessons to prepare.

Lesson One: Periods

You put them at the end of completed sentences.

Use them.

Wow there is no reason to be a ******.

How does being excluded from the social “cliques” of your class affect your grade to the point where it drops to a C?

Just a question, but I think if you talk to the guidance counselor about it, he/she might let you in. Can’t hurt to try…

Based solely on the fact that you “got a c doing absolutely nothing in class” I don’t think your teacher would be willing to recommend you for honors English.
toadstool said it well.

i am usually very social. When i had to sit at a table by myself i just didn’t feel like doing the work because i wasn’t happy in class.

i know she would because she told me so. she said that almost everyone in her class would be recommended for honors. the thing is that when i was registering for classes it said that they would choose our english and history class. I have a 4 on the reading and writing wasl and i passed the spectrum test. i think i should be in honors. But my question was how do i switch. Last year when i wanted to switch classes they would never let me. Is it different in high school can i just go to the counselor and say i want to be put in some honors classes.

All you can do is ask! :)
