8th - 84 %
Next year I am going to give AP exams. My school doesn't offer extra classes so I'm self studying.
My EC's are -

Discipline Prefect(Captain)
School House Tennis team
Captain of my neighbourhood water POLO team.
Most active student in Quizzes.(Captain)
Campaign for cleaning the city.

President of GK club
Member of the local swimming club and I am the fastest there!
My school doesn't offer much EC's....

I also volunteer in a neighbourhood hospital , supermarket and I alone volunteer for sheltering local dogs and giving food for them.
I am Taking SAT-I , SAT-II , AP and TOEFL next year.... Can you tell me what are my chances for UC Berkeley or Stanford with this high school record so that I can improve. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You!

You have an excellent GPA but bear in mind that Berkeley admissions views applications holistically. That means they take everything in consideration and there is no severe emphasis on grades and standardized test scores.

I don’t know how the process works for international students, but surely you have to take either the SAT or ACT? Visit Berkeley’s website and start looking at its requirements. If a standardized test is required, be sure to do your absolute best.

You have many extracurricular activities which is good! You appear to be a well rounded student.

Finally, what can make or break your application is the personal statements. That’s your one chance to show admissions WHY you deserve to go to Berkeley.

Keep in mind that Berkeley’s acceptance rate dropped to 21% (or a little lower) and there was a staggering 70,000+ applicants. Only 16,000 were accepted. The good thing is more out of state and international students are being accepted because the UC system is poor and needs more public funding.

Best of luck with Berkeley!

In regards to your question about Stanford, all I know is they had an astonishingly low acceptance rate at 5.9%. Stanford actually has the lowest acceptance rate this year. Many applicants have strong grades, excellent test scores, and loads of activities. Do something that enables you to stand out. Prove to the admissions that you deserve to attend the school.

Neither Stanford nor Berkeley will ask about 8th grade. Berkeley will look at 9th but will only count 10th -11th in calculating your gpa, and does give extra points for AP classes, but I honestly don’t know exactly how they factor grades from other countries. I do know they do it, however. You will need to take the SAT and it will be about as important as your grades, and both schools ask to see ALL scores if you take it more than once – so practice privately with the ‘blue book’ and review, before taking it for your first time.

Good luck!
