Can I decline an institutional scholarship offer?

If I should, what is an appropriate way to decline? Should I tell the school in advance? Heres the rundown:

I applied to a rolling admissions school and received a letter, by the school, that awarded a scholarship recently. Although I havent said yes or anything, I feel kinda pressured to attend the school because of this. I also applied to other schools early action/ rolling ad. I would like to wait for FAFSA and receive other admission/rejection letters before I make a decision. Back to the main question: is it more appropriate to decline the scholarship early or hold on to the scholarship until I make a final decision?

Hold onto it until you can compare offers. You’re over-worrying about this. Yes, you got the award now, but the school doesn’t expect you to commit now. Schools know that you’re going to wait.

Plus, if you just straight up don’t register /contact them /show up in the fall, they’ll know you’re not attending and so won’t hold you responsible for your awards. Don’t know if that’s custom, but that’s what I did, anyway. :)

Wait. There is no need to decline this offer now. I’m not sure why you think that is a good option.

Once you do make a final decision, then notify the college ASAP so they can make that scholarship available to a different student.

Particularly as you narrow down your college list, notify the colleges who are definite nos when you cross them off your list. You can still keep 3 or so colleges waiting until May 1, while you make final comparisons.

Agree, don’t decline it! You may up attending that college so don’t reject anything at this point!
