can I do a poem as a supplement? does anyone want to read?

Hi everyone,

This is Brandeis’s prompt: ‘Wislawa Szymborska said, “You can find the entire cosmos lurking in its least remarkable objects.” Help us see something ordinary in an extraordinary light.’

I wrote a free verse poem. Is that ok? Does anyone want to read it?

Thanks!

bump

please, someone???

Does poetry have anything to do with your major or do you ec’s such as poetry slam? If not it may not make sense to an admissions officer

Gonna be a bit of a downer, and say that the odds of it appealing to an admissions officer are low.

@intparent thank you for responding!
Originally I was going to write it not as a poem but it wasn’t so grammatically correct and was advised to change it to a poem. Do you think it’s a bad idea?

For many people, poetry simply does not open itself as relatable, or enjoyable. Often, when students write poetry, when others do not find sense, meaning or enjoyment in it, students will offer up the inexplicable “I wish you could read the longer written piece that I based this on.”

If you did not run the risk of seeming obfuscatory or having failed to even approach answering the prompt (and if this were not so important), I would say submit your poem. In this case, as I will assume college admission holds significant value to you, I think it a risk, but a risk which is yours to take.

My daughter wrote a poem for a fairly selective school and received a half tuition scholarship.
