Can I expect a negative impact on my chance of acceptance if I apply to Georgetown with a GED?

I looked it up on CollegeData and saw that Georgetown is one of the universities that accept GED’s as the equivalent of a regular high school diploma, and allow you to apply if that is what you have in place of a traditional four years. I know that they saw they accept it, but even if they let you apply, are my chances of getting accepted really the same? That is the only equivalence I’m worried about. Everything in high school happens fairly quickly and its hard to know the best route or even the “okay” route. Freshman year I took all honors, except for one class (French), and one AP. My GPA weighted was a 4.4. Sophmore year I took all honors and around 3 AP, including one college prep course. My GPA remained around the same. I have not yet taken the SAT’s but all my thoughts are with striving to make them as best as i can. I plan not to go through Junior year, and to get my diploma early instead so I can take some college courses online to continue education, but also mainly to get into the real world. I don’t feel high school is helping me if i can already obtain the information i need from it. I plan to travel, and have a novel that I’ve written close to publishing in the two years before I apply to georgetown but I’m concerned about my chances with all these factors taken into account and still looking at a GED instead of regular diploma. HELP.

If you complete the GED and the rest of your application is competitive, then there is no reason to believe that holding a GED instead of a HS diploma would keep you out of Georgetown.

But I do want you to think carefully about opting for the GED instead of finishing high school. Since you are interested in taking college-level classes now, could you enroll in a dual-credit program through your own school system that would allow you to complete your HS graduation requirements with courses from your local CC or a local college/university? Or, could you do a home-school program that way? This would give you a HS diploma rather than a GED, and set you up better for college admission.
