Ok, I am just going to tell the truth I'm not good at math and I want a business degree with a focus of marketing but I am scared that I wont be able to because I'm not good in math I'm in the 6th grade. For 4th grade and 5th grade I didn't really learn anything. So is 6th grade math needed for business degree? Or when you get to high school or 7th grade will they go over everything and will I start to catch on? I really want someone to answer this because I don't live in a great area and nobody in my family went to college and i'm kinda stressing out about it because I want to go. 10POINTS

I’m really impressed that you are so focused on your future at such a young age. However, you are too young to be so stressed out about college curriculum!

Yes, you do need math for a business degree. Most colleges require you to take calculus. Since you are only in 6th grade, you have plenty of time to work at math and build up your skills. I didn’t catch on until I was a freshman in college but once I got it, I did great - even in calculus.

You also have time to change your mind about your major. Think about why you chose marketing. There are a lot of majors that are similar in nature, such as advertising, graphic design, web design and technology. Think about what comes easily to you and what you really enjoy doing.

It’s great that you have a direction. Just try to be open to other possibilities. A lot will change before you graduate from high school, let alone, college.

Good luck!

I tell every person who is worried about math the same thing: it isn’t as hard as it sounds. Especially for business. Most business schools allow their students to take an easier version of calculus, and they’ll call it “applied calculus” or something like that. You’ll be fine once you finish high school. Just pay attention in algebra.

You’re fine. Sixth grade math sgould do it for a marketing major. GL

6th grade means there is plenty of time to get good at math before college. Why resign to a fate of being bad at it before you even begin. Tell your parents you want a tutor or to go to a learning center or get diagnosed for a learning disability.

Marketers need creativity. They don’t just stop because something is hard. They find ways to get their message out to consumers.

And math is becoming more and more important in marketing - Analytics is being used more to reduce risk and cost in marketing.
