Can I get in and is it the right school for me?

I have a 4.2 weighted gpa, 3.8 unweighted. I take mostly honors classes and have taken 3 AP’s already, and am taking 4 my senior year. I got a 5 on AP Economics, and most likely a 5 on AP Stats although I do not know yet since the scores haven’t been released. I have a 33 ACT superscored, but a 32 in one sitting, and my highest SAT score was a 1420/1600. Are these stats good enough to be admitted to Colgate?

I like that Colgate is a small school, and I want to study economics there. I am most interested in majoring in Finance and someday working on Wall Street, but since Colgate doesn’t have a finance major, I was wondering if I will still have good job opportunities once I graduate.

Looks like you are definitely in the mix. Your GPA may be a tad low, but I’m only basing it on a small sample - my D and a few I know going - whose weighted averages were 4.9 and above.

It may come down to how many apply from your school and area. All colleges these days try to get a 50 state mix. If you are in the Boston-D.C. east coast belt, the number of applications for schools in the area are insane, with really qualified kids being edged out by kids from other areas.

Colgate is an awesome school and my D is excited to be starting her first year in the fall.

sorry @mnx9xx. I didn’t see the second part of your question. Hopefully a student currently at the school or alum can share their experiences with you. From what I have learned, Colgate has a tight alumni network, and a lot of alums working on wall street. The Colgate alums are very loyal to their fellow alums. Good luck!

By the way, and for what it’s worth, I can confirm that Colgate alumni are very loyal and resourceful in terms of engaging our undergraduates, whether it’s about internships, networking and placements, on and off-campus.

Go 'gate!

Your admissions prospects would be at least good.

Colgate’s economics department, when analyzed by faculty publishing, is excellent (7th out of 196 schools in its category): “Economics Departments at Liberal Arts Colleges,” IDEAS.

Schools without designated finance majors may still offer courses in topics such as financial economics and international finance.
