I think I’m a strong candidate but does anyone have any suggestions for my future? What am I missing?

Eagle69:
SeattleBulldog is a freshman in high school. Rather than taking his advice so seriously, I suggest you spend a few hours reading through this forum. You’ll find many posts similar to yours with valuable replies. Pay close attention to the replies of scottj.

Dear jpm50 : Thank you for the reference - we have been away for the last month or so to avoid the on-slaught of chance-me threads from the regular decision round.

Dear eagle69 : Your profile seems to hit on many of the major components that any of our reviews would discuss. Regarding your essay, most outstanding candidates, such as yourself, will fumble the ball talking about themselves and “Why Boston College would be a great experience and fit”. The challenge is for you to turn your essay into a well-articulated view of “Why you make Boston College a better experience for everyone”. For example, what leadership skills can you bring to the campus? What are your non-academic passions? Remember, if you spend 15 hours per week in class, there are still another 153 hours per week to “fill”. Explain why you will make BC stronger and you will have a winning admissions formula.

Bluebayou, you’ve definitely done your fair share in helping me too! And alright thank you for the insight! I would love to open up that big envelope mid December next year! Gosh how relaxing would that be… And so CSOM won’t hurt my chances? Do they look at math stats/classes more?

Your ACT-M score will be enough for CSOM – can’t get it any higher! And yes, they will also be interested in your Calc grades, (since Calc is a prereq). But its not that they look at it ‘more’ for admissions purposes, just that they look at it to make sure that you won’t struggle with business math. (Someone with a <600 SAT-M score and a B- in precalc for example, might struggle if accepted into the biz school.)

Alright that is really great!! I’m doing well in precalc (A) got an A in AP Stats and hope this all transfers well to AP BC! I’m going to take SAT Math 2 this year and hopefully excel!

Dear eagle69 : Legend? No. “Da man”? Not so much. Trying to lend my experience to the forum? Absolutely.

Earlier, you wrote the following.

My recommendation would be to apply Early Action for Boston College. Your state (Minnesota) should work to your advantage, your GPA is certainly in the Top 10% of most classes, and your ACT composite will be a homerun. (As a reference point, both of my attendees to Boston College scored 34 and 33 on the ACT.)

If you want to be a business major, apply to CSOM. Do not try to game the system thinking that one school is easier than another. As I have written many times based on the numbers from inside Boston College’s admissions process, the difference in acceptance rates between CSOM and CAS is miniscule and trying to predict that an application will fall into that small bracket is like flipping a coin and calling that it will land on its edge.

Finally, keep your foot on the academic accelerator throughout your remaining High School time. As we have mentioned previously, one would not expect an athlete to back-off on their training for six months and then head to a Division I NCAA tryout. You should think about BC Academics in the same way - stay on top of your AP work, take the exams with the intent of scoring 4 or 5 in order to provide yourself with options on the core course, and finish off your High School career with gusto.

Haha well I thank you for your consistent effort. And I would never try to game the system. My brother attempted so with WashU and luckily got off the waitlist. I thank you for your support and criticisms and it will not go to waste. Also, I am glad to hear that Minnesota is to my advantage. I knew it was semi-underrepresented, but never thought it would benefit me. So that is excellent! Thank you all for your critiques!!
