anyone think i can get in? ps going in undecided thanks alot

No one can answer your question without knowing your SATs. Get 1200+, and you are in for all programs except Communications. However, you better have less typos and better grammar on your application than shown in your post.

thanks...yeah i'm just trying to get general opinons 1200 out of 2400? as far as grammars man midterms just ended i'm drained and doing most things carelessly thanks alot though

do you know anything about the relative standards for admissions/admissions rates for the various schools at Syracuse? My son is interested in Arts & Sciences, Maxwell and Business primarily. Also, do you know anything about transferring among those schools or double majoring between them (my son is somewhat interested in urban planning, public policy, international relations and business...in other words, all over the chart)

The Maxwell school encompasses the social sciences, like political science, economics, history, etc. It is technically the name of the Graduate school, and undergrads are simply in the College of A & S. However, you will find yourself being taught by some of the best professors in the country, and when you graduate, Maxwell School goes on your diploma :)

As for admissions...I spoke to one of my professors last week, who happens to be on the admissions committee (or something of that sort). We got around to talking about the stats this year, and hears what I heard: applications to the college of Arts and Sciences doubled from over 3000 last year, to over 7000 this year [the entering class is planned to be 1075, for just the college of A&S]. In 2005, the rate of matriculation (% of those who were offered admission and took it) was assumed to be around its average, but ended up being much higher - we admitted 400 more kids than we expected. This is due to our school becoming more popular (yay?). So now, this year, not only is there a LOT more competition, but since it is more likely that kids will actually matriculate, that means fewer acceptances in general.

To major between the colleges is usually quite simple - just need like 3 signatures. There should be no problem between any of the colleges, except Newhouse - you can still be admitted to their program AFTER coming to SU, but its more competative yet. [Mind you, Newhouse brings in the most talented and intelligent journalism students in the country - so the competition is well deserved]

I dont know much about the Whitman School of Management [I assume thats where business courses are taken], but it can't be any harder to get into than A&S

good info. im majoring in comp sci but i wanna double major in graphic design. but i got accepted into l.c.smith for comp sci. so how do i get into newhouse after getting to su??

There is some transfer process that you need to go through; I don't know whats involved. I guess its a lot more competitive, but I wouldn't be the one to really know :-|

My daughter was just offered admission to the engineering school with an 1880 (new) or 1280 (old) and 3.69 GPA from out of state. They wanted to see mid-year grade report to make sure she stayed in AP classes I guess.

Anarchy45, I do know that Maxwell is among the hardest of the Schools to get admitted to at Syracuse. Generally, you need a sold B+/A- average and 1250+ SATs. Other schools that are somewhat difficult to get admitted to would be their law and medical school and school of visual communications, which require a portfolio too.

For Arts and Science and Business, I don't know what the exact SATs and GPA requirements would be ,but I would bet they are lower than that required of Maxwell. I would hazard to guess that you need about 1100+ SAT (math and verbal) and a solid B average ( 3.3 or so GPA). As I noted, I could be a bit off. I do know that they get kids with better scores and GPAs. I just don't know how many apply though.

you know something the more i think about it i mean it just depends how you present yourself in your apps i've met people with 3.0's accepted and with like 1100/1600 on the old sat so i mean overall its presentation...best of luck to all and thank you to all that posted this was a really helpful post

hey i'm not trying to say anything mean no offense and i apoligize if you took any from my comment and congrats on getting in saw it in another post
