On the swim team, my time are more than likey good enough to swim for their team. GPA (UW) 3.87. All honors and Ap's through my entire highscool career. Swam the english channel and striaght of gibralter. Latin club, 100 hours of volunteering, lifeguard, 4 glowing letters from teachers, concert band, caucasian, but am adopted from an asian country (Azerbajan). What are my chances>? oh and i might add that i will not be needing any financial aid, my parents are ready to write any check necessary for tuition.

Go ED and write amazing essays about who you are and reflect on your character. Research the school and write specifics about what Cornell will do to enhance your education. GO ED!!!

Yeah, definitely go ED. Cornell’s rates are much better for ED. But maybe write about swimming the English Channel and the Straights of Gibraltar (not on the same day, I hope). I find that impressive.

if no one minds me asking what’s ED? :/

early decison

i’m going to cornell; look at the stats for the class of the 2015. most of the stats are mediocre and i would say you have a good chance.

does anyone know if you can do ED for more than one school? because besides cornell, im also looking at columbia and yale. Oh and should i stick with concert band or add another ap class in its place?? and about my language… i screwed up freshmen year by taking latin, an easy but useless class. sophmore year i switched to spanish but at a lower level that most sophmores. Im worried this will hurt me. should i take spanish in the summer to get ahead?

^ No, if you get accepted to 2 places ED, you have to accept them both. You can apply to many places EA, and only one place SCEA.

DO early decision somewhere. Your best chance is at Early Decision. I made the mistake of applying to a highly selective program at an ivy for ED, so it was even worse, but ED is your best shot. And you can miss all the anxiety in the month of March

Many recruited athletes do ED. The coaches like to nail down their teams as early as possible. If the coach wants you, he/she may put in a good word with admissions. It’s not a sure thing, but it certainly does not hurt.

Be sure to make an appointment to meet the coach when you visit colleges.

For Cornell, almost always need a hook unless you’re a 4.0 GPA/2250 SAT student (and you may not get in even with that). Luckily, swimming may be your hook. Make sure your SAT/ACT scores are strong too.

I wish I had another chance to apply to college again. Choose your list VERY carefully. You should have a chance.
