Can i get in to UP?

Hey guys. I’m a rising senior in NJ and I wanted to see my chances because I love Penn State.
My gpa weighted is: 3.45 which equals to 89.4/100
I took 3 APs
Junior year: Italian and psych
Senior year: planning on taking economics.
Only problem at my school is they weigh CP classes a little bit as well
My SAT:1110 (It’s not great but I’m taking the August one too).
I plan on applying early action, undecided, and I am willing to do the summer session. I need honest answers. Thank you

It’s possible, I say raise the SAT more or take the ACT and see how you do on that. Apply as soon as possible and write a good essay/personal statement. Good luck!

for main campus I think it’s along shot unless you get that SAT up a good amount. But if you can get it over 1200 then maybe.

Any idea was your real major might be?

I really want to be a physician assistant so I think as of right now I’d aim for bio or kinesiology. But undecided for application.

If you want to be a PA, apply to a direct admission program. Also look at Chatham university in Pittsburgh and SUNY Cortland.

Don’t apply for bio: not only does it have a low ROI but it’s weedout (a certain percentage of students are systematically eliminated from the program): you’d be weeded out and perhaps kicked out the first semester.
What about Food science? You’d get to learn how to make ice cream, it’s heavily bio/chem centered, and it may be a bit easier to get into than Biology, with many more job options.

That sounds cool actually. What about kinesiology? Is that a good major as well?

If your applying undecided then go for DUS at UP which also gives you an opportunity to transfer to any of the Penn state colleges. Also, another option is to opt for the summer start but I think with DUS your in with your scores

If you are thinking PA and don’t get into a direct-entry PA program, you may also want to consider the Penn State B.S. in Biobehavioral Health (BBH) out of Health and Human Development. You can’t get away from taking the bio, chem, calc, and physics weed out courses if you intend to apply to PA school after undergrad. However, BBH will give you a greater balance of science and non-science courses as opposed to a pure hard science degree like Bio.

To add to the confusion, the Food Science degree is out of Ag, which is one of the easier colleges to get into. And it does offer some cool future paths. I think it’s a nice option for you. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of kinesiology unless you plan to go to physical therapy or occupational therapy school, or want to pursue an academic PhD track in that field, but others may have a different opinion.

Finally, if you see yourself becoming a PA, please know that entrance to any PA school is extremely competitive and requires a lot of outside the classroom experiences – volunteering, patient contact hours, shadowing, etc. More importantly, you will need to protect your GPA at all costs while doing all this outside work, so jumping into Bio may not be the best strategy. Honestly, going to University Park may not be your best strategy. You are more likely to earn a better GPA by spending the first two years at Altoona, Behrend, Harrisburg, etc. Do the weed-out courses there and then transfer up to University Park. Just a thought.

3.45/1100 is very borderline for UP.
Apply as soon as you have your test results.
Food science may be a bit easier than DUS (generally is) and DUS is definitely easier than Kinesiology.
Check summer session.

You are out of state? So a lot of what little aid is available is not open to you. Have you considered the cost? Do you want to pay that much for Altoona or Abington?
