Can I get in?

I have a passion to get into an Ivy League school. I’m currently in 10th grade will all A’s and a few A-'s. Freshmam year however is different; I earned like 2 B’s in both semesters. Is my chance ruined? In addition, I’m from the U.S, I haven’t had a lot of extra curricular activities, so would studying abroad for a year, say England, help? Thanks

  1. Freshman grade do not count as much as do other years’ grades.
  2. Every Ivy League schools are hard to get into, so there is nothing like a guaranteed admission.
  3. You have two more years left to see how you actually perform. Do not rush.
  4. Start building up your extracurricular activity background. You have plenty of time and potential to make it solid, though only if you have strong dedication.
  5. Up to you to decide on studying abroad, but just adding one line of “I studied abroad in England” will hardly help you. You have to do something that can impress the college at England, too.

To OP: Don’t worry about your freshman year grades. In terms of extracurriculars, just focus on a few and dedicate yourself to those few. Studying abroad might be cool, but if you’re doing it for simply your college application, you’ll end up regretting it in terms of not being able to graduate with friends so I don’t recommend that you do it.
