Can I get in?

Hey guys, I really want to go to American University and I am going to apply ED 1 next year. I have gotten straight As, in all Honor classes with the exception of Math. I have gotten 1220 on SAT and 29 on ACT and 800 on my US and World History Subject Tests. I am president of my schools Model UN and political science club and am part of various clubs within my school. I am just worried that I won’t get in because I had a C in Honor Physics last semester, but throughout my high school years, I have gotten straight As and I got straight As last semester with the exception of Physics. Will I be able to get into American University ED even with that one C??? I have volunteered at political campaigns and help my community through organizing cultural events and participating in my local food pantry. Please help a prospective student out!!!

You are a likely candidate for admission. There are plenty of schools that will accept you even with that one C.

One C is unlikely to matter, if the rest of your grades are As. Your ACT of 29 is right at the median of their range (27-31), so should be ok there.

Demonstrating interest at American is also very important in their admissions decisions…so make sure to sign up for their emails, open them, click on links. Visit campus if you can, and interview with admissions. Meet with the admissions rep when they visit your high school and/or a local college fair. Applying ED is the ultimate way to express interest, but make sure American is affordable for you by first running the NPC. https://www.american.edu/financialaid/net-price-calculator-mig17.cfm
American does not meet full financial need for its students, and does use loans as part of their fin aid packages.

Much of the above info can be found in American’s most recent CDS https://www.american.edu/provost/oira/upload/CDS_AmericanU_2018-2019.pdf
