Can i get in?

Hi so im really nervous i won't get into UMASS (my favorite college). I'm a junior right now
GPA:3.1
SAT: reading 500 math 440 critical reading 440 1380/2400 940/1600
i do a lot of stuff out of school though and have a lot of leadership like being captain of many things and i am a lifeguard..i also have a lot of other things i can write down but are my grades good enough?

I hate to be pessimistic, but your SAT scores are well below the 25th percentile, and only 15% of the current freshman class had gpa’s below 3.25.

Do you have any kind of hook - recruited athlete, URM, etc?

You may want to take the SAT’s again, and maybe take a prep course beforehand. If you can get your scores above the 25th percentile mark, I think your chances will be a lot better.

Perhaps you can also look at one of the UMass’s besides Amherst, or another state college, with the goal of transferring to the Amherst campus in a year or two if your grades are high enough.

If you go to a top public high school then the 3.1 might be fine. I know at my high school anyone with a 2.8 weighted and up gets in.

You might want to work on that SAT score …

Are you in state or out of state?

i go to a top public high school very competitive, out of state also, i also think i might be applying to the nursing program will that help?

Sorry to tell you this but you will NOT be accepted into the nursing program. It is one of the hardest majors to get into and the average GPA and SAT scores of accepted students are way above yours.

You’d have to do some serious work on your SATs. Try to get above a 1900

Yeah at least for nursing it’s really hard to get in. You have a good chance of getting in to Umass Amherst, but if you do get accepted, I doubt it would be as a nursing major. And the thing that sucks about their program is that I believe that you can’t transfer into the Nursing major.
