Can I get into a top 30 school

Really low gpa and Super high ACT, can I get into a top 30 school

Colleges are more willing to forgive a low test score, that was one day. High test score and low GPA means you are very bright but lazy. No top 30 school wants that.

would having a 4.0 my senior year in 5 AP classes show them that I can handle their school or is it too late

You will only have one semester senior year when you apply. What is your GPA so far? While an upward trend is good it doesn’t count if the upward trend starts in September of senior year.

If I get all A’s senior year it will be a 3.5

So it is about 3.3 now? That would make top 30 schools a very high reach and top 20 schools out of reach.

Even with a 35 ACT and amazing ecs?

But you goofed off for three years in high school. The college may think that you will do the same once admitted.

What is your class rank?

what if i wrote killer essays that showed my enhanced maturity

Everyone on CC claims to write “killer essays”. So you matured over this summer?

Some 30-50 schools will be impressed by your ACT score.

Apply where you choose but don’t get your hopes up.

Class rank approximately 70/450

Can I contact you privately so I can give you more information?

Agree, don’t get your hopes up. Apply to schools that match the record you actually have, not the one you wish you had.

In some ways a 4.0 senior year makes things worse. It’s one thing if you’re dyslexic and your grades don’t reflect your full potential. A high last-minute GPA shows you could’ve done it all along.

Adcoms see lots of kids trying to improve their records last minute and are generally not impressed.

AroundHere: would colleges judge me by the 3.3 I have right now or the 3.5 I could get when they see my midyear report because there is a huge difference between those and I know a 3.3 disqualifies me from top schools but a 3.5 can keep the door still open

A 3.2 or 3.3 GPA and a 35 ACT with a not so good rank? I agree with @TomSrOfBoston that you should be looking at the 30-50 schools and considering the 20-30 your reaches.

@NEPatsGirl would NYU be a match or a reach because its ranking is listed differently everywhere and they are holistic with applications

Not familiar with NYU, I’m sure you can find their stats on their website. I think I’d probably average everything out, so look at schools with an average 3.7 GPA and 32 ACT, something like that.

NYU is probably a reach at this point.

How, their average gpa is 3.63, average act is like 31 and they’re holistic so they’ll care about essays and ecs @sparkykoolkat

@FedNation1 You definitely have a chance with that ACT score of 35. You’re just going to have to be more strategic. Apply ED1 and ED2 to two top 30 (or so) schools. Here are the top 30’s Unis with ED2
Emory U
NYU
Tufts
U Chicago
U Rochester
Vandy
Wake Forest
If i was you and dead set on a top 30 regardless of fit it would apply ED1 to Wake Forest. Which is probably the easiest top 30(or so) to get into, followed by U Rochester and NYU CAS both of which are just outside the top 30. However see which top schools you like best based on fit would be my best advise.

ALL of these schools are reaches by the way.
