I have a 3.65 gpa at a prestigious private school and scored a 35 on my ACT. I am a 3 sport varsity athlete and I also have 100+ hours of community service. I started my own community service program that brings STEM based activities to lower income preschools. I also have an insane amount of school spirit but don’t think that figures into my applications unless I write an essay about it. I want to know if it is possible for me to get into an IVY, duke, georgetown, or notre dame.
Ask your prestigious private school counselor, who would know you and your record much better than strangers on CC.
Is your 3.65 GPA weighted or unweighted? Do you know how your GPA compares with other students at your high school?
Do you know what your budget is?
Your GPA, whether weighted or unweighted, is either a bit low or very low for all of the schools on your list. Your ACT is good, and is higher than the 75th percentile for Notre Dame.
If you are good enough to be a recruited athlete then you probably have a chance particularly for Notre Dame. Otherwise my best guess is that all are reaches.
One additional issue: The 8 Ivy League schools are not all the same. If you add MIT, Stanford, Caltech, and Chicago, there is even more variation. If you apply to any highly ranked university, and someone asks "why ", then you should be able to come up with a good answer. It seems unlikely that all of these schools are a good fit for you. You need to figure out what you want other than “prestige”, and apply to schools that are a match for what you want.
Really hard to say. Depends on course rigor (e.g., is that 3.65 unweighted and from taking a more rigorous course load) as well as lots of other things – like whether you are an underrepresented minority, how many kids apply to the Ivies or equivalents, etc. At the end of the day, just make sure your college list is balanced. Balance out Georgetown or Notre Dame with BC, Villanova or Providence. Balance out a Penn or Columbia with a BU or NYU or Tulane. Then find a few schools you like where they would be lucky to have someone with your academic stats. Good luck!
It depends on the level of your school, class rank, rigor of courses, and SAT subject tests.
Look at cappex or parchment.
Yeh, the school counselor should know. It is hard to tell without knowing what school, and what the grading is. They may not offer many AP classes as such, so hard to evaluate rigor of course work.
Use Naviance in order to see how you compare to past applicants from your school.
Grades less than A can be an issue, especially if related to the major.
If OP is interested in tippy tops, she should be aware of what those college want and the fierce competition. Hours of vol work tells nothing, nada, about the challenge and merit. Working with preschoolers? If this is for a possible stem major, what hs math/sci activities, including collaborative? What rigor?
Sub scores matter more than composite.
I would also google your school name and matriculation. Additionally, find out what the average GPA is for your school. If you are mid level or above average for your school, you should be able to get into about the level others with similar records got into. The ECs seem weak and you aren’t mentioning subject tests. It doesn’t sound like top Ivy, but it could be T20 or T50.
