I know that this might seem like I’m trying to rub this in your face, but trust me I’m not. I’m really curious if I can get into any good universities with this(not just Ivys). I know that currently my ACT score isn’t up to par with the rest of my stats, but I’m retaking it with the help of a tutor. Does anyone know if this will service for some good places? (Specific colleges are welcome).
If you get your ACT up you could get into just about any University in the country. You might want to focus on becoming a captain/leader on your sports team as well as doing community service.
Thanks for the reply! I’m currently a captain on varsity cross-country, VP of Best-Buddies, and next year there is a good chance ill be president or VP of National Honor Society. I also do community service. Hopefully by the end of year I’ll have around 100 hours of service(I have plenty more that isn’t turned in). Clearly my main focus needs to be on ACT. I can only hope that I’ll raise it by 3-4 points with ease.
You know top schools have very low admission rate even for those with much better scores. You should first look for matching schools which are likely outside of the top 40.
Hey, I’m back. I know this is a tad older post, but I’ve come to realize that I seriously don’t even think I’m going to apply to a lot of the top universities. I’ve been reading all these “What are my chances?” posts. They make me look like absolutely trash compared to them, especially when they comment back saying they were rejected from all these schools. It seems way to cut throat for my rather cooperative nature. Schools like Harvard not only have a ridiculously low acceptant rate (roughly 5%), but 80% of students who apply are academically capable to Harvard’s standards. In other words, they reject a majority of these “perfect students.” I’ve done nothing out of the ordinary. Sure I’ve worked hard, but I haven’t created anything extraordinary. I swear half the posts in “What are my chances?” claim that they’ve done spectacular things, such as starting famous businesses. They’re mascular wolves, while I’m a dead beet. I’m going to clearly have to aim much lower.
Don’t back pedal too much! CC posts are a little biased compared to the general population. They tend to have higher scores, higher GPAs, etc simply because they are more informed and much more conscious of trying to get into a top university. Also, for every rejected perfect student, you will also read a post of a not so perfect student who surprisingly got into Harvard or MIT. Finally, you are not really sure how many of the stats in the posts are embellished. So, your strategy should be to diversify. Have several safeties, but also include matches and dream schools…you never know!
