Hey there guys. I’m now a sophomore in high school and want to study music education in college. I practice guitar for about 4-5 hours a day and play a wide range of styles (jazz, classical, blues, bluegrass etc) I’ve gotten to become a pretty good guitar player over the years but my grades dipped quite a lot last year and a little this year. I ended last year with an overall grade of 81, And my ended my first semester of sophomore year with an 86 (still got 2 more semesters as of next week) Being that my gpa is rather low compared to ASU standards from what I see online, what are my chances of getting in? I’m out of state by the way.
Can you look up how to calculate your gpa on a 4.0 scale? Their average gpa is a 3.49, so about half A’s and half B’s. You’re still a sophomore, so you have lots of time to get your gpa up. Also make sure you spend time preparing for the act/sat. It’s too early to chance you, but you definitely should have a chance.
ASU has guaranteed admission if you meet certain requirements:

One of the options for meeting the minimum criteria is a 3.0 GPA (83-86 according to College Board conversion) but note that this is in core competency classes defined by the Arizona Board of Regents. These classes are listed at the top of the page.
Note also that you will be required to submit a separate application and audition for admission to the music school.
