Can I get into Columbia Journalism with D's and C's in Chemistry and maths?

I’m an international student from France,i’m in Senior Year.During my freshman and the first semester year I got C’s and D’s in Biology,Chemistry and maths…
During the second semester of Sophomore year and the whole junior year I got those grades:
English:A+
Spanish:A+
French:A
Maths:B
Social studies:A-
Geography:A
Biology:B
Chemistry:B
Sport:A+

I’m on the Track and field school team.If I have good scores on the TOEFL,SAT and I do a great essay can I get into Columbia Journalism?
Thanks

What’s your GPA?

3,7

And I also got A+ in economy

I don’t think so. Columbia is known for its rejection of even the most qualified students. The GPA that they are looking for would be well above 4.0

@olithi I can understand an international student’s attraction to Columbia but there are many schools with the same reputation or better actually in that field of study.

I have a question:
Does a university looks at the grades in scientific classes if I want to get into a journalism college?

@olithi I don’t think you understand how admissions works. They look at your GPA as a whole. Columbia wants well rounded students, who succeed even in a field they may not want to go into in the future. If you have C’s and D’s, don’t even bother going Ivy, regardless of what your major is.

You are a senior? It is getting late to be thinking about applying to US schools. The process is much different than Europe.

Did you take the SAT or ACT?

Also, Columbia is not the only “elite” journalism school in the US. I’m not even sure its comparable to the best any more.

Yes

no you cant. even with one C, ur chance drops significantly. With D, even 2nd tier schools look hard for you

What did you score?

Is that GPA weighted or unweighted?

If it’s weighted, you’d almost certainly need a “hook” (black/latino/native american, famous/famous parents, recruited athlete, parents who can donate $25 million to the school) to stand a decent chance.

If it’s unweighted, your odds still aren’t great (below the RD acceptance rate - low single digits), but they are a little better.

Universities will look at all your grades for core academic subjects - even if you major in journalism, they don’t want you taking gut courses to meet your science requirement if they can have a student that’ll take real classes instead.

Columbia only have a graduate journalism program. You can not get a Bachelors in journalism at Columbia. So whether or not you can get in is irrelevant if you want to major in journalism.
