Hi I’m currently a high school student and I’ve been researching colleges and want to know if I can get into Cornell CALS. I’m not in advanced math so I won’t be taking precalc until senior year and the requirements say I need precalc will it still count for senior year?
Basically what I’m asking is do colleges look at which classes you take senior year?
What are your stats? Test scores, grades, EC, race, gender, etc.?
Considering I only just finished freshman year I don’t have much stats:
White female
3.7-4.0 GPA last I checked…final grades aren’t in yet. However all of my class averages are above 90 (my school does a 100 pt grading system)
ECs:
Student council
Freshman Class Board Vice President
Sophomore Class Board Vice President (elections for next year are in June so I’m already elected for next year)
Superintendents Advisory Student Team
JV Softball (possible future varsity athlete)
Orchestra
Choir
Possible Future Candidate for NHS
Future science research student
These all may be subject to change by the time College apps come around so it’s kinda hard to say plus new opportunities may become available to me
Does anyone happen to know how to convert a 100pt scale to a 4.0pt scale to calculate GPA?
Also is there different acceptance rate for all of the different schools at Cornell University?
Also do you have a better chance of getting in when applying ED versus RD?
Yes a much better chance when you do ED
BUT
make sure you actually really like the school and are 100% comitted
Thank you!
It’ll be easier to chance you once you’re a junior. Colleges will care about all your classes and admissions essays. Your ecs look a bit generic, but they have plenty of time to change.
Ok thank you! Any advice on how to make my ECs stand out more?
Just get involved in maybe some out of school activities, maybe an internship or something like that? I have friends who used to go to labs and stuff like that as underclassmen. Get involved in any in school activities you feel passionate about, and if there is a specific type of club you’d want to be in that your school doesn’t have, take the initiative to try and start it up yourself! You still have a long way to go before you can get accurate chancing for colleges, since we’d have to see the final GPA, ECs, SAT/ACT/Subject Tests, etc. GL with high school though!
