I graduated from high school this year with an embarrassingly low 2.91 unweighted GPA, 3.1 when weighted (You know, it really irritates me how only the unweighted GPA matters, or at least that’s the only GPA which shows on the Common Application, but whatever I guess) and an 1810/2400 on my SAT, with a 660 in Math. I also scored a 4/5 on my AP Statistics Exam.
Do I have a chance, or should I just give up?
It all depends on your activities. Your GPA is not very strong but your sat scores are pretty good, if you are a very involved student, I believe you will have a chance.
Don’t worry about stats. A lot of other things can help you. I know someone who got in with a 1560/2400 SAT. I know another person who got in with an unweighted GPA of around 2.9 such as yours. It really depends on the combination of many factors
@munit123 Your post has me more optimistic with my D’s chances. Were those students recent admits? Were their majors competitive to get in? Thanks for your help!
@pct3 You’re welcome! Yes they are both recent admits. One admitted this EA round for fall 2017 and the other admitted last year for fall 2016. One was admitted into the Electrical Engineering program. I’m not aware of the other one’s own
A lot of things go into the decision. So some good factors one has can offset some bad factors.
Less than a 3 GPA will be tough… I would not give up. maybe think about taking a year between high school and college. Take a few CC classes to try to make up for you low spots. apply again as 1 st year.
Did you get accepted btw?
