Hi,
Just wondering if I would get into Drexel with a 2.91 unweighted gpa? I have finished my 11th grade year. The most I can get it up to by the end of the 1st semester of senior year would be a 3.0 gpa. That brings me to another question. My 1st semester ends in January 23rd, 2016. However, Drexel’s Regular Descision application is due on January 15th. So my transcript will only be showing 9th-11th grade. Will they still wait to see senior year progress in the transcript? I did read somewhere on their website that they would like to see 12th grade progress on the transcript.
My Extracurricular activities include,
Mathletes (9th grade)
Green Schools Club (10th grade)
Track and Field (11th grade)
Also I have 75 Student service learning hours. My SAT score is 1250 but I can get it up. I’m really anxious to get into Drexel.
@DragonFire16 I don’t think you should go to college now, unless you get a skyhigh test score in the fall. Maybe consider going to your local CC and then transferring from there?
I hope your SAT is 1250/1600. If you have a 1250/2400, you won’t get into anywhere. Yes they will still see your senior year grades, up to the end of first semester. your school will just send the grades later. (probably sometime very late january or early february)
Ok, then I will work on my SAT score. I can show them that I’m also making senior year progress. Because by the end of senior year, my gpa will be a 3.0
@DragonFire16 your ec’s are not extraordinary, they won’t help you. Sorry to burst your bubble but here’s the profile of one of the girls at my school that ended up going to Drexel: 3.9 UW GPA and 36 ACT with reasonable ecs. I honestly and wholeheartedly believe that your best option is to go to your local community college, and transfer out after a year or a semester. That is a perfectly viable option. You need to pick up the pace with your SAT (I would suggest 2250+) since your GPA is low.
Also, it doesn’t mean a single thing if you can get a 3.0 by the end of your senior year (I assume this is if you get straight As). Unless you have some personal circumstance to explain your GPA, it will be hard for you to get in anywhere.
Let’s not get carried away. Those numbers are at the very-very upper end of the typical Drexel admit. (frankly they are obviously at the upper-end of any school’s admits).
I don’t think the OP has answered the SAT question yet. Is it 1250/1600 or 1250/2400? If it’s the former, he has an outside chance. If it’s the latter, he’s lightyears away from any reasonably competitive school.
Michelle obviously your being very unfair. Just because your parents were Asian and expected a lot from you, 2400 SAT and 4.0 gpa, dose not mean the admission folks are like that. I don’t need to go to community college because I have plenty of good universities I can apply to by the end of next semester. Bet you went to community college. Go be Asian somewhere else.
I can work on my SAT scores. I plan to get a 1800. Drexel is very expensive, I don’t think they need very good scores and gpas. Or else many people won’t be going there. If you pay full tuition, why need to try so hard.
@DragonFire16 I don’t think I’ll try to “chance” you anymore. But I will provide you with Drexel’s common data set for their latest incoming class to see where you can improve (and also what SAT score realistically to aim for). http://www.drexel.edu/provost/irae/factbook/common_data/ Best of luck.
I once knew an individual who had a 3.4 and a 1600 SAT, and he got into Drexel easy.
If you have a 3.0, your SAT will have to make you shine. If you got an 1800, I think you would have a decent chance of getting in, and to be honest, I believe you WOULD get in! Best wishes.
Your GPA is less of an issue than your SAT score. I would say look into if any community colleges have associations with Drexel, where you can get a two-year degree at the community college and transfer to Drexel.
You list 1250 as your SAT score. Drexel’s 25th percentile SAT score is 1620. That means 3 out of 4 incoming freshman to Drexel have 1620 or higher on their SAT. You have 370 points lower than that. That is not minimal. And to get to 50th percentile, where half the students are above and half below, that’s about 1830 according to that site.
If you feel that you can do that much better, like if you were really sick on your test day or did zero prep at all, go for it. I would suggest looking into local colleges or lower-ranked engineering schools.
And if those are your only ECs, I feel like your guidance counselor is terrible or you need to schedule a meeting ASAP to get some real options. “Acting too much of themselves” is easy when many folks on CC got above 1250 on M + CR only.
Just make sure to apply to other schools as well. Admission at Drexel is not certain, nor is it likely without a large improvement in SAT scores (perhaps consider the ACT too) Your stats put you at the bottom 10% for enrolled students.
