Can I get into Duke, Cornell, Dartmouth, or Washington Unv. in St. Louis??

Hi I'm a rising senior nervous about my chances to my dream colleges...Duke, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Washington Unv. of St. Louis....
Of course, I'll apply to several others good schools, but I really want to go to either Duke, Cornell, Dartmouth, or Washington Unv. in St. Louis (especially Duke). I'm thinking of applying Early Decision to Duke...will that increase my chances?

I want to work in World Health Organization (part of UN) and major in international studies and sciences (like Environmental Science) (with Spanish or global health minor)

Could you please review my resume and critique/evaluate? Thank you so much!

SAT I:
Nov.: 2070
CR:740
Math: 690
Writing: 640
March: 2110
CR: 730
Math: 770
Writing: 610

SAT II:
US History: 710
Biology: 780
planning on taking math II in October

I'm planning on taking the SAT again soon (the June test)
and basically hoping/focusing on raising my writing score since Duke and Dartmouth go by superscore... (I know Cornell doesn't but....)

GPA: Unweighted 4.0
Weighted 4.3
I'm ranked 17/400 which is top 5%

I have taken all gifted/accelerated classes (which is a replacement of Honors in my school)
Including next years' I'm taking 9 APs
(I have/will take most APs according to the academic process my school offers - I could not take any APs freshman year and maximum of 2 sophomore year)
Last year I took AP World History and got a 5. I also took AP Statistics and got a 4.
This year I took AP Lang, AP US History, AP Biology
I'm hoping the results are good :)

Next year, I'm taking AP Spanish, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC, and AP Gov/Economics

ECs:
President of Multicultural Club which I created
VP of National Honors Society
was Secretary and now VP of Environmental Club
was VP and now Executive Officer in Key Club

Symphony Orchestra Club
Science Olympiad
Beta Club

500+ volunteers hours through Mentor program, Fayette Care Clinic, Fayette Humane Society, and Atlanta Korean School

European Tour with Youth Orchestra during summer
CDC summer program
Girls State program (which deals with politics etc.)

Thank you!

If you raise your sat score to 2200+ then I would say you have a shot at these schools but it’s kind of a crapshoot so don’t get your hopes up. If you are completely sure duke is for you than apply early because the acceptance rate is around 25%.

Okay, thank you!!

Are you an NC resident?

Duke, Cornell, Dartmouth, and Washington Unv. of St. Louis: Your SAT is well below the line for all these.

I’m basing this off of the kids over at my school who were accepted in the colleges you want to apply to.

I’d definitely retake your sat with those colleges in mind. Your ec is great though!
A guy at my school got into Columbia without early decision with a 36 act and a 4.0 as well with phenomenal ec, so i’d definitely retake your sat or even try out the act

I’d love it if you can chance me back (even though my stats aren’t as great but shhhh :(( )

@cw1114: No, I’m a Georgia resident.
And I’m taking the SAT in 3 days…haha
so I’m really hoping that I do well!

Thank you everyone!

@Arlertz8‌ yes I’ll look at yours also!

Not being a North Carolina resident hurts your chances at Duke (it’s dumb but I’m sure you’ve heard the 15% NC resident rule for Duke’s acceptance composition) but you do have a shot. You seem to be very well rounded as far as ECs go. My only suggestion is to up your SAT score. Or maybe take the ACT? I struggled with my SAT and held a 2110 until my school forced me to take the ACT and I got a 35. Maybe the ACT will be more of your forte and all of those schools respect the ACT as well.

The good news is that you should definitely be able to increase your SAT since your lowest score is in Writing. Learning general grammar rules is much, much easier than increasing reading proficiency.

The bad news is that Duke is tricky with their admissions. Like cw1114 said about their NC residence rule, they are harder to predict how you’ll rank in their admissions. A girl that graduated from my school a few years ago (she had a 36 ACT, 3.85 UW, plenty of AP’s, great EC’s, okay leadership, and a few University courses in Math) had applied ED and was flat out rejected. She wasn’t even deferred. She got into U Chicago, Northwestern, and a few others though.

So hopefully your heart isn’t set only on Duke, but if it is I wish you the best of luck!

okay!

Thank you everyone!
