Can I get into Harvard with a C?

^^Saugus… didn’t he post a billion threads after a C in Algebra II, lol?

And from what I think, if you improve on that CC, like an earlier poster said (his daughter got a C in Calc I, then got an A in Calc II) it won’t have that drastic of an effect.

Though like what Admiral said, this isn’t what you should be worrying about as a freshman. And this is coming from a current freshman.

Who the Devil is Saugus? Quite a unique and foreign name I must say.

I got into Harvard with a C in AP Physics C on my MYR.

It can definitely be done. I got into Stanford with a C in my sophomore chem class (I know, this is about Harvard, but you get the idea).

Why are you so fixed on getting into Harvard in 9th grade? You say you are ambitious, but perhaps your goals are a little rigid.

Relax, do your best, enjoy high school. Don’t do things because of how they will look. Do things because you want to do them, and want to learn.

There are plenty of good schools out there.

But wait until junior year to think about them.

If you insist on obsessing about a C in 9th grade, then read some books on colleges like “Colleges that Change Lives,” “Beyond the Ivies,” “Cool Colleges” etc. so you at least have the idea that there are many good schools that can meet your needs.

Luciferlied’s post did get these points across…sarcastic humor can seem mean, but it certainly is effective in getting the message across…

I think it’s okay for 9th graders to at least start thinking about colleges, but nto get obsessed.

I would seriously relax. I got into a lot of top schools, ultimately deciding on Harvard, and you would be appalled if you saw my transcript. Freshmen year I had THREE Cs in Geometry, Physics, and Spanish (however, I also go to a school consistently ranked in the top 3 in the country). Later in high school I did get it together, but you need to relax for right now. And your right about being passionate about extracurrilars, that can offset an imperfect transcript (it worked for me). Seriously, don’t worry.

Haha, reminds of this clip from the Simpsons:

Yes. One C in your freshman year will not lower your chances at all. Even if a college looks at your freshman year stats, they don’t matter that much and if you’ve improved/kept a good GPA throughout high school, then one C won’t break any chances.

I have the same question about getting a C and not getting into Harvard. I’ve gotten all A’s in my high school transcript except in AP English Language and Composition in my junior year. In the first semester I got a C and my second semester I got a B. I did not get a C for not doing my work because I did EVERY SINGLE THING ASSIGNED, but when it comes to the essays the teacher graded harshly. Also, I am not making this up, many students from the class told me that she had favorites as some students that had her for AP English also had her for Sophomore English Honors. Any insights on the possibilities into getting into Harvard. took 4 AP classes junior year (APES, APUSH, AP SPANISH, AP ENGLISH), senior year I will take 6 (AP CALCULUS AB, AP PSYCHOLOGY, AP PHYSICS B, AP BIO, AP EUROPEAN HISTORY, AND AP ENGLISH LITERATURE). I have already taken college courses at my nearest community college and planning to take an additional 3 college courses this summer, 2 more in Fall 2010
I do a lot of community service at church, food banks, and I help with the environment (tree planting, park cleanup, beach cleanup, and so on). My unweighted GPA is 3.94 (10/670) and weighted is 4.75 (1/670).

Wow, Cs matter that much? I thought they just looked at your HS GPA.
