Hi! I am a junior in high school. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice as to whether or not I would have any chance of getting into Harvard. By the time I apply to college, I should be in the top 10% (but only barely) , have an unweighted GPA of around 3.75 out of a 4.00 and have a weighted GPA of 5.6 or 5.7 out of 6. I took the SAT 3 times and my highest score was a 2270. By the end of my senior year, I should have taken around 15 AP classes. However, although I took many AP classes, there were many AP classes that I got Bs in and many that I got As in. I’m guessing that having several Bs on your transcript would look really bad if you’re applying to Harvard even if they were for AP classes. I am mixed race of Asian Indian, African and (a little bit) European, but I’m only going to apply as Asian. My safety school is UT, so if I don’t get into Harvard, I’m going to UT. Even if by some crazy miracle that I do actually get in to Harvard, my parents probably wouldn’t want me to go because it’s too expensive. Anyway, what do you think? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Well…UT is not a safety for you. Auto admit for your class is top 7%. You may get in but there is no guarantee and no telling if you will get your major.
As far as Harvard, no one can say but it is not likely. You probably have no better odds than most applicants. You don’t mention your ECs. Are they spectacular?
Identify some schools where you will receive merit scholarships or financial aid if money is a concern. You are a godd student and should have plenty of choices.
Hi txstella, thanks so much for replying to me and giving me advice! You’re right about the fact that I might not get my major in UT. My ECs are pretty basic as of right now. I’m in 3 clubs and in 1 honor society. However, I will be shadowing a professional in my senior year of high school (for 5-6 months), and I think that will look good, but I’m not sure if that will look good enough to get me into Harvard. Also, I am going to try and get an internship somewhere, but I don’t know how that’s going to go.
There are many wonderful schools. At this point, get out a Fiske Guide and read about different schools. Ask your parents to visit some close-by LACs and tour the big state schools.
Don’t get too stressed by the process.
Thanks so much. I’m going to order a Fiske Guide (lol before you mentioned them I didn’t even know what they were!). Lol I’m probably just going to go to a state school, so I’ll definitely take my parents to look at some. I hope you get into a great college! Thanks for all the advice!
