Hey guys so the colleges that I really want to go to are JHU, Cornell, NYU, WUSTL, or UPENN.
I also have a slight interest in Case Western Reserve University.
Can I get into any of those colleges with the following stats.

UW GPA: 3.8

buuuuuuuummmmmmmpppppp

Can you also chance me for Duke University please?

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuump

I definitely feel you could get into JHU and Cornell and most definitely get into NYU. WUSTL and UPenn can be difficult no matter what but try and figure out how to show passion in an EC maybe in an essay or through leadership to help. If you’re interesting in case western they have outstanding merit based aid and you would be an outstanding candidate with your scores.

Thanks! Anyone else?

I suggest Cornell ED to boost your chances if that is in fact your number one choice. You would have a strong shot there. Penn/WUSTL are difficult but possible.

I have a complex about my own ECs. I’d say that you should do your best and make up for the lack of shine by making your SAT uber-solid, like 2300+ (not that it isn’t great now.) Your GPA is great and I agree with smarty to consider ED–but it’s certainly not for everyone and if you have any financial qualms whatsoever I’d strongly advise to look for EA programs/just not do ED.

You just apply for Case Western if you don’t already have a good number of safety/low match/just match in general–good school and you’d definitely get merit aid, based upon my friends’ experiences. Your ECs probably would only “harm” you in the sense that, when doing a 1v1 comparison the guy with comparable stats + better ECs might win out; otherwise, no, I don’t think they’re grounds for dismissal of your app.

Thanks guys! i feel better. Anyone else?

Your stats are great. However, your EC’s don’t seem to show much depth, unless you haven’t really explained the depth of commitment. Most honor societies don’t count for much, since many high achieving students like yourself belong to them. Perhaps you can really expand on your commitment to track. All of the schools that you have listed are highly competitive. At this point, what may differentiate you from the pack are your essays and LOR. Demonstrated interest counts at WUSTL (such as applying ED), but as you know, the whole application process is nebulous at times.
